The new i30 Sedan N had its world premiere at the Auto Shanghai 2023, signalling the N brand push into China. The N brand turned 8 years old recently, building on a lineage of track-focused history dating back to Australian rally legend Wayne Bell. His Hyundai Lantra was the predecessor to today’s i30 N Sedan, and his class wins came across the Australian and Southeast Asian events.

The i30 Sedan N has received a subtle make-over of the front and rear bumpers, red detailing on the sides, and the new boat tail detail at the rear. The front bumper directs cooling air across the brakes, aiding on-track performance. A rejigged grille guides air to the radiator for better cooling without affecting the aerodynamic performance.

Finally, a black anodised emblem appears, to become the new N branding rolled out across the N range.

N cars have proved popular with gay buyers, and according to our reader comments, “hot guys drive N cars”. Who are we to argue?

Better ride and handling come from=

  • A reinforced engine mount membrane
  • G-bushing reinforcement
  • new rear suspension S/ABS insulator made of rubber instead of urethane

Changes to steering and tyre pressures further enhance the N feel. The software has been fiddled with in order to use high-octane fuel, something N-thusiasts asked for.

 

Inside

The new i30 Sedan N has a steering wheel and shift knob that are N-specific, as is the instrument cluster and infotainment systems. The N light sport bucket seats have an illuminated logo for a final touch of glamour.

N is about going fast, but doing it in style.
