2025 Subaru Forester is Brawnier, Brainier, and Battery-Boosted

Hold onto your hiking boots, darlings—the sixth-generation Subaru Forester has finally landed, making its Aussie debut at the Melbourne Motor Show. She’s bold, brawny, and now comes with a little electric sparkle, thanks to Subaru’s new strong hybrid e-Boxer system.

After nearly 30 years of faithful service to school runs, surf trips, and snow-chasing weekends, the beloved Forester has levelled up. Think of it as your trusty flanno-wearing uncle who’s just discovered activewear and kombucha. She’s still dependable, just a bit sleeker and a lot more modern.

Outside, the 2025 Forester flexes with chunky arches, a redesigned grille, 220mm of ground clearance, and C-shaped LED headlights so sharp they could slice an avocado. There’s a kick-sensor tailgate (because who has hands these days?) and roof rails ready for anything from kayaks to drag props.

The big news, though, is under the bonnet. Subaru’s new e-Boxer hybrid mates a 2.5L petrol Boxer engine with an 88kW electric motor and 1.1kW battery. It’s smooth, torquey, and—get this—offers over 1,000km of range per tank. That’s Sydney to Byron and back without needing to stop at a servo that only stocks chicken Twisties.

Prefer old-school? A good ol’ 2.5L petrol-only version remains on the menu, both engines paired with Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Lineartronic CVT for go-anywhere confidence.

Inside, the tech game is strong: an 11.6” touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and up to nine airbags. Hybrid trims also score a snazzy 12.3” digital dash. EyeSight Driver Assist, X-Mode terrain control, and a 360° camera are all here to keep you safe, comfy, and smug.

Subaru promises seven trim levels, each more decked out than a Mardi Gras float. Pricing drops mid-year, but if you’re gagging for a closer look, head to Subaru’s site and register your interest.

As Subaru Australia boss Scott Lawrence put it, “The new Forester is stronger, smarter, and more capable than ever.” We’ll drink to that—probably something organic and green.
