Abarth brings a new special edition model to the Australian market.

May 30, 2018 – In celebration of Carlo Abarth’s history of endurance and speed record success at Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Abarth Australia has introduced a fitting tribute in the form of a limited edition 124 Spider – dubbed the Monza Special Edition.

“Equally at home on urban roads as well as on race tracks, the Abarth 124 spider is attracting a new generation of enthusiasts in Australia with its performance, technology, comfort and ease of driving. It combines the authentic roadster experience with exemplary performance, technology, safety and distinctive Italian design,” he added.

Based on the 2018 124 Spider, the Monza Edition will be limited to just 30 units. Each individual vehicle will be identified by its own unique numbered special edition plaque installed in the cockpit. The plaque is crafted of brushed aluminium with a laser etched finish, and features the Monza circuit map.

Exclusively presented in only three colours, the 124 Spider Monza Edition paintwork options pay homage to 124 Spider victories in the European Rally Championships; Turini 1975 White, Costa Brava 1972 Red and San Marino 1972 Black.

Additional panache is reflected in the 124 Spider Monza Edition’s exterior with the fitment of gloss red exterior mirror covers.

The style extends to the interior with each 124 Spider Monza Edition featuring stylish leather trimmed seats in two-tone black and red, with red stitching and Abarth logos stitched into the upper backrests. Superb function follows the interior flair with the fully-adjustable Abarth leather driver’s seat enabling an optimal seating position for all driver shapes and sizes.

The 124 Spider Monza Edition also comes standard with Abarth’s Visibility Pack, which adds significant comfort and safety features such as Auto Levelling LED headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps, Adaptive Front Light System, ParkSense Rear Park Assist System, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

An Adaptive Front Light System is also engaged to further raise the level of safety by predicting the shape of curves on the road ahead based on steering input and vehicle speed, and pointing the low beams in the direction of intended travel.

The Record Monza exhaust system is the quintessential nod to Carlo Abarth. Its powerful and hard-hitting sound is the result of a perfect combination of Dual Mode technology, with four exits and an aggressive design that delivers the unique and unmistakable sound of the Abarth 124’s MultiAir with Garrett Turbo engine.

The Dual Mode Exhaust System technology involves the use of a two-way ‘Record Monza’ valve, mechanically actuated, fitted upstream of the exhaust tailpipes and adapted to optimize and improve the exhaust backpressure curve in the exhaust system, creating an exhaust note that ignites the senses.

About Carlo Abarth

Carlo Abarth created the legend of the “scorpion” with total dedication and almost frenetic activity, which revealed the characteristics of a genius. His continuous successes on and off track followed one after another at a rate that is still amazing today. An incredible lifetime punctuated with records, triumphs, and epoch-making ideas that changed our approach to the sports car.

In 1956, driving a Fiat Abarth 750 with a body by Bertone, he set a whole series of duration and speed records: on June 18, on the Monza track, he broke the 24-hour record, travelling 3,743 km at an average speed of 155 km/h. Then, from June 27 to 29, again at Monza, he broke numerous other records: the 5,000 and 10,000 km, the 5,000 miles and also the records for 48 hours and 72 hours.

On October 20, 1965, he set the acceleration record over a quarter of a mile and over 500 metres on the Monza track, with the Fiat Abarth ‘1000 Monoposto Record’ Class G, 105 bhp, and the next day he set the same records for higher classes in a 2000 cc Class E single-seater. Yet another anecdote that says a lot about the tenacity of the man, who had to lose 30 kg in weight at the age of 57 in order to get into the small cockpit and drive his cars to victory.
