MINI’s all-new Cooper C and S petrol models, and two electric versions, Cooper E and SE, arrive in in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

Starting in 1959, Mini proved to be popular with  rock stars, royals, and the bloke next door, and just ab out every gay man on the planet. Notable owners included Paul McCartney, Steve McQueen and Enzo Ferrari. Lord Snowdon, Princess Margaret’s husband, was a friend of Mini designer – Alec Issigonis. The couple was among the first to own a Mini, cementing the tiny people’s car as an instant classic. Some say fashion designer Mary Quant was inspired by a Mini to invent her famous mini skirt.

“The MINI Cooper boasts a remarkable pedigree and remains the core of our brand after more than six decades,” said Matt Schmidt, General Manager of MINI Australia and New Zealand.

“With its minimalistic yet sustainable design, enhanced digitalisation capability and signature MINI handling, the new MINI Cooper will continue to stand out from the crowd.

“Everyone who has encountered a MINI has a story to tell. And we have no doubt that the new MINI Cooper will bring more of those special moments for the next generation,” Mr Schmidt added.

Models

MINI Cooper C has a 3-cylinder petrol engine and 7 speed DCT automatic. Cooper C’s modest 115kW/230Nm manages a 0-100 of a relaxed 7.7 seconds.

Cooper S increases to a 150kW/300Nm 4-cylinder with a 0-100km/h of a slightly quicker 6.6 seconds.

The electric range starts with MINI Cooper E with a 41kWh battery and 135kW/290Nm, a 0-100 km/h of 7.3 seconds, and a slightly increased range of 305 km.

Cooper SE  has a 54kWh battery, 402km of range, and 160kW/330Nm getting a 0-100 in 6.7 seconds.

They have DC fast charging allowing 0-80% charge in 28 minutes and 30 minutes, respectively. A 11kW AC trickle outlet gives the Cooper E the same amount of charge 4.5 hours and the Cooper SE in 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Looks

The all new Mini still has the Mini look. Seeing one in the street leaves the viewer in no doubt that he is witnessing the ongoing development of a loved brand. Australian sales are modest, but the brand deserves a second nod.

New Mini has large round LED headlights, redesigned rear Matrix LED taillights, both with three selectable light signatures that begin and end with a welcome /goodbye seqence.

Inside

The cabin uses recycled knitted textile in the 100% leather-free design with Cloth/Vescin vegan leather upholstery options.

Electric Mini has a EV platform that has 69L more boot space than the first generation EV hatch. Boot space is still snug, with 210-800L of cargo area.

The dash has a new 240mm OLED central display. Those who like driver dials in front of the driver will take a moment to get used to it. Classic Mini owners will already be used to it. New features also include the MINI Experience Modes each with a set of sounds, visuals and colours. There are seven modes: Core, Green, Go-Kart, Personal, Timeless, Vivid and Balance.

Voice Control and Gadgets.

‘Hey MINI’ or the push-to-talk steering wheel button bring the voice system to life. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant learns from use.

For example, using the navigation location, Mini can learn to lower a window when entering a car park, MINI cars come with with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a high-resolution Head-Up Display.

Other cool gadgets such as “Driving Assistant Plus package is optional on Cooper C and standard on Cooper S, E and SE.

The standard system has radar-based driver cruise control, lane change warning, blind spot detection and active rear crossing traffic with braking. Driving Assistant Plus adds camera and ultrasound to provide: Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Collision Prevention, Surround View and Remote 3D View, and a Parking Assistant.

Mini has become eco-conscious.

The alloy wheels are made of up to 70 per cent recycled aluminium. They’re made using renewable electricity to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%

Other eco savings are made with floor mats made from 90% recycled polyester reducing Co2 by 98 per cent.
