All-New Mini to be Packed with Technology

Not only has Mini persisted with their circular centre LCD, the all-new Mini adds loads of extra function to the “MINI Interaction Unit”.

“We are taking a massive leap into the digital world with the new MINI family and, in so doing, underscoring the charismatic heritage of the brand. The iconic central display in the new MINI family is round and will be filled with round content for the first time. I am convinced that the digital power of the new models will delight MINI customers around the world,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of the MINI brand.

The new technology is credited with providing the first round OLED display, and is based on MINI Operating System 9. The system has been “optimised” for touch control, finally. It uses an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack, and gives the user 8 MINI Experience Modes.

Electric models get a range of generated sound effect, and the range gets a new cloud-based navigation system. All such systems use over-the-air-updates to connect to the world, which is a subscription service the user has to pay extra for once the free period expires.

Remote Software Upgrades: MINI vehicles also now receive regular free quality improvements via over-the-air software updates. Depending on the country, vehicle model, equipment and vehicle condition, you may even receive additional new functions or functional improvements free of charge. One assumes “free of charge,” means, “during the warranty period.” That will be confirmed later.

The MINI Connected Store has downloadable apps (e.g. AirConsole gaming, music and video streaming (available content varies by countries), and the Digital vehicle access is compatible Apple, Google, and Samsung devices. The optional available MINI Digital Key Plus allows the driver flexible access to the MINI, without having to access their phones by hand. The key can be passed on to other people digitally using the sharing function.

Finally there is High-Speed connectivity and optional 5G capability.
