Bugatti W16 Mistral Caroline 2026: A Bespoke Ode to a Beloved Daughter

Bugatti has unveiled the W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’, a bespoke masterpiece created through its Sur Mesure program. Named after the owner’s daughter, this one-off hypercar transforms the final open-top W16 into something approaching wearable art, complete with hand-painted florals, lavender paintwork inspired by Provence, and embroidery that would make a Parisian couturier weep with envy. It is, without question, the most beautiful way to spend an undisclosed fortune.

The W16 Mistral represents the last of Bugatti’s legendary W16 era. Through Sur Mesure, the marque’s bespoke division, it ceases being merely a feat of engineering and becomes something closer to haute couture on wheels. The owner, a loyal Bugatti customer, wanted a commission defined by delicacy and grace, rooted in the beauty of flowers and the world of high fashion. The result took the form of ‘Caroline’, a tribute to his daughter.

From Molsheim to Berlin, Bugatti’s Color and Material Finish team spent months immersed in lavender fields of Provence, meticulously adorned Parisian gardens, and the sophisticated elegance of haute couture fabrics. Through close dialogue with the customer, they translated nature’s fleeting grace into automotive artistry.

What Makes the Bugatti Mistral Caroline Special?

The exterior is finished in bespoke ‘Lavender’ paintwork, a hue developed through dozens of samples assessed across the car’s sculptural surfaces. The final tone shifts with the light, oscillating between bluish and reddish violet like flowers in bloom. Beneath this luminous finish, exposed ‘Violet Carbon’ weave tints the lower body in a complementary tone, grounding the design while adding depth and contrast.

The rear wing becomes a canvas for hand-painted floral composition. Layers of lilac and iris shades are applied with extraordinary precision; each petal carefully defined, every tone methodically interwoven, delivering a sense of depth and vitality. At its centre, the name ‘Caroline’ is inscribed in Bugatti’s signature script, anchoring the creation both visually and emotionally.

The masking process alone is painstaking: multiple foils applied in successive stages ensure each layer of colour is perfectly realised. The entire rear wing becomes a majestic canvas, revealed in full splendour when the air brake deploys. One imagines it would be rather distracting for whoever’s behind you, though at Mistral speeds, that’s unlikely to be a concern for long.

What Is the Bugatti Mistral Caroline Like Inside?

The interior continues the narrative in texture, material and light. A harmonious interplay of ‘Blanc’ and ‘Minuit’ leather, rich violet tones and ‘Violet Carbon’ creates an environment that feels both serene and expressive. The floral theme comes through intricate embroidery, chosen for its ability to convey depth and delicacy.

Each headrest features a mirrored, hand-stitched floral motif composed of layered stitching techniques and thousands upon thousands of threads that allow multiple tones to coexist within a single design. The process includes sketching, digital mapping, stitching and meticulous quality assessment. The resulting richly layered details reveal new subtleties with every glance.

Across the door panels, the embroidery takes on a more dynamic character, with petals appearing to drift and flow as though carried by the wind. This sense of movement was carefully developed to echo Bugatti’s core design language, ensuring that even the most delicate details convey energy and life.

At the centre of the cabin, the gear selector houses Rembrandt Bugatti’s iconic ‘Dancing Elephant’, encased in glass tinted to harmonise with the surrounding violet palette. A quiet yet powerful link to the marque’s artistic heritage.

How Much Does the Bugatti Mistral Caroline Cost?

Bugatti doesn’t discuss pricing for Sur Mesure commissions. The standard W16 Mistral costs around EUR 5 million before anyone at Molsheim picks up a paintbrush. A one-off commission of this complexity? Considerably more. The kind of money that makes a Cullinan Yachting look like a sensible family runabout.

As Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti, puts it: “With the W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’, we have had the privilege of bringing an exceptionally elegant vision to life, working closely with the customer to shape every detail with precision and care.”

The car is of remarkable beauty and individuality. It reflects Bugatti’s heritage of savoir-faire and innovation, and the unique story and graceful taste of its owner. It is a fusion of legacy and personal expression that defines Sur Mesure at its very highest level. And somewhere, a daughter named Caroline has the most extraordinary automotive namesake imaginable.
