Designer, Paul Smith, collaborated with Mini to produce this one-off Mini “Strip”.
“For me, the MINI STRIP shows in an impressive way that MINI and Paul Smith share the same bold way of thinking about the future in terms of innovation and design – and together we create more. Paul asked essential questions right at the start of the design process with his non-automotive and therefore fresh perspective. We are proud to have developed such a strong character statement together.“ explains Oliver Heilmer, Head of MINI Design.
The Mini “Strip” focuses started by stripping down a Mini Coper, and refitting it with a focus on sustainability. Remember, this is a show car, not a road car.

Paul Smith commented, “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to rethink the iconic MINI,” he says. “I know and love the existing car, but by respecting the past and looking to the future we have created something very special. I feel very privileged that the MINI team have given me the confidence and freedom to think laterally about the approach to the design of the car. Together I think we have created something truly unique, by going back to basics, reducing things down and stripping the car.”
The idea was to build a mini that was minimalist, yet high class, inside and out. The 2 door Mini was left unpainted, with a protective coating.
Many components are 3D printed. These include the front and rear apron inserts, and highlight the ease of recycling at the end of its life. The grille trim is flattened out to reduce drag, something that is important to electric cars. It was made of recycled Perspex, as was the sunroof and wheel covers.
The stripped back cabin features a semi-transparent glass dash board, mesh door cards, and controls limited to a few toggles on the lower console. Your smart phone is the only display on the centre screen. Presumable speed and other driving data plays second fiddle.
Interior linings are kept to a bear minimum, which would make highway cruising a noisy affair.
