Ford has tapped one of its own for the top job, announcing Fadi Mawal as President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand, effective 1 January 2026. It’s a properly old-school Ford story too, the kind you don’t see much anymore.
Mawal joined Ford in the early 1990s not in a corner office, but driving a forklift in a Melbourne parts and service warehouse. From there, he worked his way into Finance, spending 15 years learning the nuts and bolts of the business before stepping into Ford’s Asia Pacific Strategy team.
By 2016, Mawal was CFO for Ford Australia and New Zealand, a role he held for four years before moving into Sales Director duties between 2020 and 2022. In May 2022, he headed north to Bangkok as CFO for Ford International Markets Group, overseeing financial planning, reporting and governance across a sprawling patch that included Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Now, he’s coming home to lead Ford locally, bringing with him decades of experience across finance, strategy and sales – and a résumé that proves he knows the business from warehouse floor to boardroom.
Meanwhile, current Ford Australia and New Zealand boss Andrew Birkic isn’t heading for the exit. After five years at the helm, Birkic will step into the role of Vice President, Sales and Service for Ford International Markets Group, where he’ll shape sales and service strategy across the region.
Ford International Markets Group President Jeff Marentic says Mawal is the right person for the job, praising his breadth of leadership experience, while also acknowledging Birkic’s expanded role as Ford looks to drive strong results across Australia and beyond.
