The e-building is Ferrari‘s new facility for producing internal combustion-engined cars, hybrids, and its first electric model. As a sign of its significance, it was officially opened by last week by Italian President Sergio Mattarella in attendance. The president was welcomed by Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, Vice Chairman Piero Ferrari, CEO Benedetto Vigna, and other dignitaries. John Elkann emphasized the plant’s importance, stating it integrates workforce centrality with environmental respect, underscoring Ferrari’s commitment to Italian excellence and innovation.
Everything about the new building is cutting-edge and sexy.
Production Flexibility
The e-building enhances Ferrari’s production flexibility, supporting the company’s strategy of prioritizing revenue quality over quantity. It embodies technological neutrality, enabling the production of internal combustion engines, hybrid engines, and electric motors. This integration allows for more efficient organization and reallocation of production activities, enhancing Ferrari’s adaptability. It will allow Ferrari to switch to EV-only without issue.

State-of-the-Art Technology means Energy Produced Renewably
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the e-building will also produce critical electrical components, including high-voltage batteries, electric motors, and axles, vital for differentiating Ferrari’s technology and performance. The facility, designed for high energy performance, is partially powered by over 3,000 solar panels producing 1.3 MW. By the end of the year, with the shutdown of the trigeneration plant, the building will rely entirely on renewable energy, internally and externally sourced with a guarantee of origin.
Environmental Focus
The e-building incorporates innovative solutions for energy and rainwater reuse. For instance, more than 60% of the energy used in battery and motor testing will be recovered and reused. Built north of the Ferrari campus, the plant replaces outdated industrial structures, avoiding additional land consumption.
Employee Training and Well-being
Worker training and well-being were key considerations in the e-building’s design, which includes dedicated training spaces. Training for the new production lines began two years ago, focusing on developing necessary skills and processes for new systems and products, particularly in electric motor and battery assembly. The facility features collaborative robots and digital twins, enhancing the role of employees and ensuring the meticulous quality Ferrari is known for. Various ergonomic and comfort-focused solutions improve the work environment, including ergonomic workstations, relaxation areas, and optimized lighting.
Community Integration
Ferrari’s investment in the e-building confirms a central role in the local industrial landscape, aligning with community needs. The urban context integration involved redeveloping over 100,000 square meters and redesigning road infrastructure, including a new road and a 1.5-kilometer bike path.
Architectural Design
The e-building was designed by MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects in collaboration with Ferrari. it features a rectangular shape with a distinct façade of opaline glazing and clear glass, resembling a glowing lantern at night. The design and manufacturing of the façade components followed Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles, ensuring cost efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
