Range Rover Electric Conquers the Arctic: Luxury, Electrified, and Ready for Anything

Range Rover is gearing up to launch the most exciting luxury electric SUV yet, with the Range Rover Electric proving itself in the ultimate proving ground: the frozen wilds of Arjeplog, Sweden. After completing a brutal second winter season, the Range Rover Electric is well on track to deliver the effortless performance, refinement, and off-road mastery the nameplate is famous for – this time, without a petrol engine in sight.

Clocking up a staggering 45,000 miles across frozen lakes and snow-drifted tracks, Range Rover’s Arctic prototypes were pushed to their limits. The harsh, sub-zero conditions provided the perfect arena to validate the brand’s latest innovation: ThermAssist technology. Designed to slash heating energy consumption by up to 40%, ThermAssist ensures that even in temperatures plummeting to -10°C, the Range Rover Electric keeps its passengers warm, preserves its driving range, and maintains fast-charging capabilities. Because let’s be real – nobody wants to freeze their fabulous bits off while waiting for a top-up.

At the heart of the Range Rover Electric beats a new 800V high-voltage battery, the first to be designed and built in-house by JLR. With a 117kWh capacity and cell-to-pack architecture, it’s built for maximum energy density, serious range, and ultra-quick charging – crucial for those glamorous road trips to the snow or spontaneous coast runs. The battery pack cleverly packages 344 prismatic cells in a compact, double-stacked layout, preserving Range Rover’s elegant profile without sacrificing any performance.

And the tech upgrades don’t stop there. Range Rover’s engineers have reimagined single-pedal driving, tuning it to perfection with Terrain Response. Whether you’re crawling over ice sheets or navigating 28-degree inclines, the system blends regenerative braking, Hill Hold, and throttle control to deliver seamless starts and stops – without ever needing to touch the brake.

In addition, the switchable twin-chamber air suspension has been fine-tuned to counter the unique weight distribution of the electric drivetrain, ensuring the new EV maintains that signature Range Rover composure. Whether you’re gliding over ice, gravel, or suburban potholes, this Range Rover will still feel smoother than a RuPaul runway strut.

Another big win is the advanced Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) system, paired with Integrated Traction Management. Thanks to precise torque delivery, the Range Rover Electric can adjust power from 100% to 0% between the rear wheels almost instantly – controlling slip 100 times faster than a traditional petrol engine. The result? Total control, total confidence, and total drama-free driving, even when Mother Nature throws her worst tantrums.

Thomas Müller, Executive Director, Product Engineering at JLR, said:
“Rigorous testing procedures in extreme and unpredictable conditions like those experienced in Arjeplog are crucial to Range Rover Electric’s real-world reliability and resilience. Our second winter season has exceeded expectations, especially with ThermAssist safeguarding range and charging speeds.”

Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, added:
“Delivering the authentic Range Rover experience in an EV without compromising capability or luxury is incredibly challenging – but we’ve nailed it. Range Rover Electric feels exactly as it should: powerful, composed, and effortlessly refined.”

With testing still ongoing throughout 2025, the Range Rover Electric is set to officially open for client reservations by the end of next year. The wait is nearly over for the world’s first truly luxurious, truly capable, and truly electrified Range Rover.

Stylish, powerful, and utterly unstoppable – the Range Rover Electric is coming to a driveway near you. Get ready, darling. The future is glamorous and green.
