Hyundai’s PONY rectreated in ‘Reflections in Motion’ exhibition

Hyundai Motor Company revealed its chic Heritage Series PONY. This steam-punk reconstruction revisits the spirit of the original mass-produced PONY which broke onto a world stage. It signalled a window in to what has become Korea’s automotive industry stampede, more than 45 years ago.

As mentioned, design legend Giorgetto Giugiaro penned the first PONY. The PONY became a darling of reasonably-priced personal-transport set between from 1975-1990. The  model was historic as Korea’s first mass-produced and exported vehicle.

The Heritage Series PONY’s metalwork has a shimmering matte silver look. Tech highlights include a camera-based, fender-mounted exterior mirrors, pixelated round LED headlights and U-shaped taillights. This ‘Pixel Road Trip’ design uses pixels and eight-bit graphics also seen in the IONIQ 5 and 45 concept car.

Inside, the interior design has been lavished with luxurious materials. The doors have a classic feel, and the cabin has a stunning ambient lighting system, and a dash board using lighted vacuum tubes and other  stylishly retrofitted design touches.

Modern technology extends to a digital touch transmission, cradle space for mobile phone and voice-activated steering. Some of these features are a futuristic take on that which is currently available in Hyundai Group models

Hyundai Motor’s human-centered design commitment is highlighted in the cargo area where a last-mile mobility device is installed.

‘Reflections in Motion’ exhibition at Hyundai Motorstudio Busan, asks visitors immerse themselves in the interactive displays representing time, design, technology, and styling. The installations highlight Hyundai Motor’s ‘Progress for Humanity’ vision.
