IIHS Gives 2022 Kia Stinger TSP+ Safety Award

The 2022 Stinger sport sedan has got itself yet another top US gong. This time, it is the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) rating. KIA USA has given the Stinger a refresh.

Standard LED headlights have added that little bit extra to give an already great car, extra pep. Stinger has been a Top Safety Pick in previous years, but the updated 2022 Stinger scorred ‘good’ in all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The Stinger comes standard with Forward Collision Avoidance Assist that earned a superior rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and an advanced rating in the vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation.

For the 2022 model year, Stinger has been given a nip and tuck inside and out, including a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with more horsepower for the twin-turbo V6, and subtle interior and exterior updates.  The new model brings many new Drive Wise advanced driver assistance systems the entire range, that were once reserved for top models only.

These include:

  • Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection,
  • cyclist, and junction turning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • High Beam Assist

“The Stinger fundamentally changed the way consumers viewed the Kia brand,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America, Kia America. “This latest Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS validates Kia’s relentless pursuit of improvement and advancement, and perfectly complement the Stinger’s highly regarded performance capabilities.”

The Stinger is the 2nd Kia America car to get TSP+ after the 2021 K5 (built after November 2020), that also received the top gong earlier this year. Other Kias to get top marks are are:

  • 2021 Soul
  • Forte, Seltos (built after August 2020)
  • Sportage
  • Sorento
  • Telluride when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.
