The Hyundai Group has a decent record for spotting talent, particularly in hiring the best of European excellence. The Korean car maker once made the cheap and cheerful, and they did it well. While some, including noted journalists and TV presenters, may have joked at Hyundai’s expense, they have had to acknowledge Hyundai’s transformation into an automotive leader.

Hyundai, Genesis and Kia are now desirable brands because of the strategic way key people have been hand-picked. Once such appointment is that of Manfred Harrer, who is now Executive Vice President and Head of the newly established Genesis & Performance Development Tech Unit.

The smart EV range will be an entry to premium EV motoring for buyers who might otherwise fall into the arms of established brands.

The smart cars are loaded to the gunnels with cream of techy goodness. The makers claim “up to” 440km of range, and an entry price that will give current non-premium EV cars of similar size a run for their money.

The specifications and pricing are to be published next month, and will herald with the triumphant launch of a smart Australia website. From then on, buyers can begin their registration of interest. Orders are expected to begin in July for September deliveries, a very fast timeline in automotive terms.

A huge promotional campaign is due to start any time, and display cars will be available for viewing at dealer and other locations from August.

LSH Auto Australia’s Managing Director, John Good, welcomed the group’s expansion of offering; “The addition of the smart EV range is a natural and exciting progression in offering customers the best premium motoring options across all available technologies.”

“We know there is a growing Australian demand for urban EV motoring. The opportunity presented by a German-designed premium EV was a perfect fit with our focus on delivering excellence at all levels. We look forward to providing a smart option to our substantial existing customer base and to welcoming many new members to the LSH Auto family through the smart brand.”

Global Chief Marketing Officer for smart Automobile Co, Mandy Zhang, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity presented by the LSH Auto representation in the Australian market. “It’s clear that increasing numbers of Australians are drawn to the advantages of EV mobility. Entering a growing market with a premium product, presented by a premium partner, is the best possible outcome. We are confident the new smart range will connect with Australian EV needs, and that LSH Auto Australia will add a customer experience that will make the overall proposition extremely attractive.”
