Manual Subaru BRZ Gets Eyesight Safety Suite for 2024, at Last

After much ado, Subaru will finally glue the EyeSight safety gear into the manual transmission BRZ. The installation of many of the features required for 5 star safety ratings is overlooked in manual cars, with much of the technology relying on automatic transmissions (or Electric Vehicle single reduction gears) to work fully.

It will arrive in time for the 2024 BRZ (MY24) BRZ which will be in Australia by the end of this year.

BRZ EyeSight includes:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Adaptative Cruise Control
  • Pre-collision Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning

Up to now, BRZ buyers had to get the 6 speed automatic to gain the benefits of Eyesight. This falls short of customer expectation in the regular automotive sector, but BRZ has appealed to a different kind of buyer. Serious drivers still like a manual transmission despite hideous city traffic.

Blair Read, Managing Director of Subaru Australia, commented: “This announcement confirms Subaru Australia’s ongoing commitment to providing driving enthusiasts manual transmission options now combined with advanced safety features of Eyesight®.

“The preventive safety technology combined with adaptive cruise ensure a relaxed performance drive, giving owners the best of both worlds.”

EyeSight®, Subaru’s cutting-edge safety technology has garnered international acclaim for its ability to enhance driver awareness and help reduce the risk of collisions.

Eyesight was first seen in Australia in 2012 on Outback and Liberty, but is now found in 95% the cars Subaru sells in Australia. That’s not to say manual drivers are obliged to use it, but the introduction of many of the Eyesight features brings manual versions BRZ into line with other Subarus
