Marc Marquez Takes Brazil Sprint Victory as Jorge Martin Returns to Podium

Marc Marquez claimed his 16th career Sprint victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, holding off Fabio Di Giannantonio by just two tenths at the flag in a tense finale at Goiania.

Di Giannantonio took the holeshot from pole and built a lead of over a second by mid-race, but Marquez reeled him in lap by lap. With three to go, the Ducati Lenovo rider made his move out of Turn 12, taking the lead and holding it despite a twitch at the final corner on the last lap.

The win puts Marquez equal with Jorge Martin on 16 Sprint victories since the format was introduced.

Marquez’s Remarkable Comeback

For Marquez, the result continues a remarkable comeback that seemed impossible just two years ago. Between 2019 and 2024, the Spaniard crashed 132 times during race weekends, underwent four surgeries on his right arm, and battled two separate bouts of diplopia that left him seeing double. He later admitted he nearly walked away from the sport entirely. “There was one point that I said, ‘Okay, stop my career. I’ve achieved enough,’” Marquez revealed in a recent interview. Instead, he switched to Ducati and won his seventh world championship in 2025 — only to miss the final races after shoulder blade surgery in October. Brazil marks another statement that the 33-year-old is far from finished.

Martin’s Emotional Return

Speaking of Martin, the 2024 World Champion made an emotional return to the podium for the first time since the Solidarity GP last year. Third place marks his first rostrum with Aprilia Racing after a difficult start to 2026.

Quartararo Shows Form

Fabio Quartararo produced a stunning start, jumping from the grid to challenge Marquez for second before settling into sixth place at the flag. The Frenchman held off Ai Ogura in a battle that showcased his elbows-out racecraft.

Marco Bezzecchi took fourth and maintains second in the championship standings, now two points behind Pedro Acosta. The Red Bull KTM rider came home ninth after a race-long scrap with Francesco Bagnaia.

Home hero Diogo Moreira gave Brazilian fans something to cheer about, taking tenth place in his rookie season.

The main event follows on Sunday, with more action from Goiania expected to deliver fireworks.
