Max Geoghegan, grandson of the legendary Australian Touring Car Champion Ian “Pete” Geoghegan, ended the 2024 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) GR CUP season with a decisive victory, clinching the championship title and a $50,000 prize after a high-octane weekend on the Gold Coast. His strong performances in all three races—qualifying second and finishing with two seconds and a third—earned him a season total of 1236 points and solidified his standing atop the GR86 racing series.
James Lodge, who started the weekend third in the standings, delivered an impressive sweep with three race wins, adding 1174 points to secure the season’s runner-up title and a $30,000 prize. Lodge’s stellar efforts throughout the season also earned him the prestigious Kaizen Award, recognizing consistent improvement, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Daytona 500.
The 2024 GR CUP season was marked by intense rivalries between Geoghegan, Lodge, Bradi Owen, and Matthew Hillyer. Despite leading the field before the final round, Owen faced a challenging weekend, finishing ninth in Race 1 and battling a late-race incident in Race 2 that dropped him to 26th. His third race saw a commendable recovery to 19th, securing him third overall in the championship with 1138 points and a $15,000 prize. Meanwhile, Hillyer’s campaign ended prematurely due to a crash at Bathurst.

Geoghegan was also crowned the 2024 Scholarship Series champion, an accomplishment that underlines Toyota’s commitment to developing new motorsport talent. Rising star Royce Lyne, winner of the Scholarship Series Evaluation Day, showed promise with a funded drive at Bathurst, finishing 14th in his debut.
The season finale, celebrated at an awards gala on the Gold Coast, honored these achievements, with Toyota Australia’s Chief Marketing Officer Vin Naidoo praising the drivers’ passion and energy, which brought “intensity and excitement” to each round. Toyota announced that the TGRA GR CUP will return in 2025 as a premier support series for Supercars Championship rounds across Australia, promising another exhilarating season of racing.
