Mazda Australia has today confirmed just 700 units of 100th Anniversary Special Edition vehicles will be available to Australian customers.

Built on existing high-grade models, 100th Anniversary Special Editions are available across Mazda’s range of SUVs and passenger cars.

The Mazda 100th Anniversary Special Edition range draws inspiration from Mazda’s ground-breaking first passenger car, the R360 Coupe.

Developed in 1960, the Mazda R360 Coupe was responsible for launching the humble Hiroshima-based former cork manufacturers into the automotive world, setting a benchmark in reliability and a commitment to driving that lives on to this day.

Other GayCarBoys Stories:

While the Mazda R360 never officially made it to Australia, it was the willing participant in a gruelling 1962 reliability test run, covering the 1,500km round trip from Perth to Esperance on a variety of unsealed country roads and outback scenery, taking it all in its stride.

Inspired by the two-tone red and white design of the high grade Mazda R360 Coupe, special edition vehicles are finished in Snowflake White Pearl Mica with a rich Burgundy leather interior with 100th Anniversary badging embossed on headrests. The same commemorative badging also appears on the front fender, key fob, hub caps and burgundy floor mats, all complementing the Snowflake White Pearl Mica exterior finish.

Mazda Australia Director of Sales, Jarrod Gieschen said the special edition models would represent a piece of Mazda history and a future collector’s item.

“We’re all incredibly proud to celebrate Mazda’s 100th anniversary by being able to offer these special vehicles to our customers,” said Mr. Gieschen.
