Monterey Car Week is back at the Central Coast after a year’s break. It starts at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca’s Kick-Off Car Show, with other events like the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance scheduled.

There will be authentic race cars driving in the Monterey Pre-Reunion on Downtown Monterey’s famous Alvarado Street. Those present will be able to meet the drivers in person. This is something you won’t find in many other places.

The free show starts at 5 p.m. Friday, August 6, with 24 wonderfully loud cars getting a California Highway Patrol escort to the Alvarado Street event. Business along the route will be in the thick of it. Cibo Italiano Ristorante has drink specials and a DJ playing, with tickets for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion being raffled off. Things wind up at 7 p.m. with the cars making the glorious way back to the circuit to start preparations to the weekend’s activities.

The Monterey Pre-Reunion, on August 7-8, gives drivers and their teams a chance for extra time before the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the weekend after. Events such as these are wonderful opportunities to experience vintage race cars in their natural habitat. There will be 8 different run groups so there will be something for everyone.

The picturesque coastal road course has been in the calendar since 2010. It kicks off the Monterey Car Week Races, which will see both new, and vintage race cars from pre-1920. The Kick-Off Car Show showcases the vintage look and feel of the historic track.

Highlights include:

  • 1966 Bizzarrini 5300 GT America witha 327 cubic inch Corvette engine, one of 114 ever built. It is the only one racing in the USA.
  • 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302
  • 1973 BMW CSL

Other examples from 1958 through to 1988 will be on parade.

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca gives children under 15 free entry when accompanied a ticketed adult. To keep the kids interested, there will be a Ferris wheel in the Kid-Zone. For older kids, Go-Karts will be there for the 1st time since 2019. You can cop a ride on Saturday, August 14, if you fancy a few cheap thrills. If you’re over 21, there is a Beer Garden with local beers, but if you are a wine drinker, there will be many local wines on which to tipple.

For other Vintage cars, the  Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance starts in the 5th, and is in its 70th year.
