It’s official, folks – the Nürburgring Nordschleife has a new American hero. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD has made history, becoming the first car from an American brand to smash the elusive seven-minute barrier on the legendary German track, clocking in at a blistering 6:57.685.

In case you’re not across it, the Nürburgring – fondly nicknamed The Green Hell – isn’t just any track; it’s the ultimate litmus test for sports cars. And the Mustang GTD didn’t just pass; it roared into fifth place on the all-time leaderboard for stock production sports cars. That’s some elite company for an 815-horsepower beast with its heart firmly planted in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Behind the wheel was Dirk Müller, a Multimatic Motorsports ace, but the GTD’s success is the result of two years of sweat and sleepless nights from a small, dedicated team of engineers. Ford pulled out all the stops to turn the Mustang GT3 race car into a road-legal supercar that can hang with – and beat – Europe’s best.

“The team behind Mustang GTD took what we’ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world’s best supercars,” said Ford’s CEO Jim Farley. “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.”

The Mustang GTD packs serious firepower, including a supercharged V8, carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, and semi-active suspension. Wrapped in a carbon-fibre body, it blends race-car pedigree with street-legal swagger.

And if you’re curious about the behind-the-scenes drama, Ford has dropped The Road to the Ring, a 13-minute documentary chronicling the trials, triumphs, and tantrums leading to this historic run. Grab some popcorn and head to Ford.com or YouTube for an inside look.

This isn’t just a Mustang; it’s a supercar with a loud, proud American roar – and it’s just getting started. Move over Ferrari, Porsche, and McLaren. The Mustang GTD has arrived, and it’s not here to play nice.
