New online concours aims to raise £100,000 for Unicef

The website for the new online Concours Virtual is now live, detailing the 17 concours classes, the sponsors and the commercial partners already involved, with the aim of raising £100,000 for Unicef.

From June 30 to August 9, Concours Virtual Presented by Hagerty will show off some of the greatest cars ever made. Normally, such cars would be appearing in prestigious Concours d’Elegance events around the world, were it not for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, these cars, from the early 1900s to the present day, will star on the website and social media of Concours Virtual, to be judged by an all-star team of more than 40 expert motoring personalities.

Judges include Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, five-times Le Mans winner Derek Bell, Chasing Classic Cars TV star Wayne Carini, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival founder The Duke of Richmond, Fifth Gear TV presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson, Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman, modified Porsche guru Magnus Walker and Harry’s Garage YouTuber Harry Metcalfe.

Entries for each class are already open, and have attracted a wide range of cars, including: a 1930 Bentley 4½ Litre that has been in the same family from new; the outrageous 1978 Lancia Sibilo Bertone concept car; the National Motor Museum’s 1950 BRM V16 Formula 1 car, raced by Juan Manual Fangio; the remarkable MG EX181 land speed record breaker driven to 245.64mph in 1957 by Stirling Moss; and a heavily modified Porsche 356 ‘Outlaw’ owned by John Oates, of pop duo Hall & Oates fame.

The Concours Virtual website is at www.concours virtual.com and includes a link to the Unicef JustGiving page, to raise money for the charity’s appeal to help children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to raise £100,000 – already around £15,000 has been raised. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/concoursvirtual.

Eligible cars can be entered during June via the website, with the classes details at www.concoursvirtual.com. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite cars in each class starting on June 30, with the overall Best in Show winner announced on August 9.

The Concours is organised by Hothouse Media, publishers of Magneto magazine and The Concours Year, and organisers of forthcoming The Concours on Savile Row.

Please note that Concours Virtual is run independently of Magneto magazine, and all publicity will benefit the Unicef fundraising.
