Nissan Wins Ninth Gold for LGBTQ+ Pride in Workplace Equality

Nissan Snags Ninth Gold for LGBTQ+ Pride, and We’re Here for It

Nissan is back in the spotlight, shimmering like a drag queen under a disco ball, after scoring its ninth consecutive gold award from Japan’s Work With Pride. Nine years of gold! At this point, Nissan’s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion is more stable than most of our exes.

Work With Pride didn’t just hand over the glittering prize out of courtesy. Nissan earned it by actively listening and responding to the needs of sexual minorities within the company. Their Pride Index examines real actions — representation, education, HR systems, community involvement, and public advocacy — and Nissan is ticking every box like it’s competing in queer Olympics.

Internally, Nissan has been putting in the work. All employees get access to e-learning modules, seminars, and awareness training designed to nurture understanding, not just tolerance. Back in 2019, they began recognising same-sex and common-law marriages for leave and celebratory benefits, and by 2024, they’d fully aligned these partnerships with legal marriages across personnel policies. Their LGBTQ+ employee resource group is also getting beefier support, with exec sponsorship finally giving it the muscle it deserves.

Externally, the company keeps showing up where it counts. Since 2019, Nissan has sponsored and marched in Tokyo Rainbow Pride, Japan’s biggest celebration of queer visibility. For the 2025 parade, around 100 employees joined in, creating a rolling rainbow of Nissan-branded joy.

Globally, Nissan says it wants to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion — and with nine golds lined up like a pride parade of trophies, it’s clearly not just blowing glitter. If only every company committed to equality with this level of consistency. The world — and the workplace — would be a whole lot gayer and a whole lot better.
