At under 2 tonnes, the smart #3 is pretty light for a modern EV, and yet the Brabus version will hit 0–100 in a very cheeky 3.7 seconds. The Exterior It’s pretty low-key. I’ll admit, it wasn’t love at first sight. The little hatch blends into the background with just the slightest hints of Brabus-ness. But it grows on you fast.

13: Volvo EX90 Ultra THE BMW KILLER

The sublime Volvo EX90 Ultra is the new electric gentleman’s shooting brake. he seven-seater bears a striking resemblance to the CX90, but its tail lights are borrowed from the EX30, and the Hammer of Thor headlights now feature a theatrical flourish. They split along a hidden central axis to reveal bright LED beams. Only the subtle badging hints at the electric marvels wrapped within.

here’s a healthy 369kw/637Nm in the RWD “entry level” 2LT and 3LT models, with the 5.5L “Z06” putting out a head-banging 488kw/595Nm. Deeper pockets can spring for the Corvette E-Ray, a stonking E-AWD Coupé good for 488kw/806Nm. It glues the 6.2L V8 onto the back axel, and a 119kw/169Nm electric motor to the front one and yes, all Corvettes come with the same 8-speed double-clutcher. The beauty of an E-AWD is that there are two cars in one.

Abarth 500e has a load of sex appeal. We drove the equally charismatic Fiat 500e last year, and loved it. The cheeky little Italian lives up to an expectation of being fun yet functional, but the Abarth version is expected to fan that ember into a warming fire. In regular Abarth 500s, the burble from its inner sanctum helps the visceral juices flow. The electric Abarth lacks such aural inducements

9: 2025 Honda Civic e:HEV Review

The delightful Civic just had a tiny make-over only a couple of years after its launch. as handsome, long, and low as ever. The all-hybrid line-up delivers us an e:Hev L and e:Hev LX, and we tested the e:Hev LX in all its glory. For $55,900 drive-away, there is no HUD, something standard in 40k cars. The driver’s dials deal the dirt with 10.2” LED screen flanked by some rather awkward LEDs for other data. A 9” infotainment touch screen has Google built in, but it may as well excised.

When Mercedes-Benz brought out the EQE sedan, it seemed that the Mercedes was back baby. he EQE SUV is a trifle shorter than her sedan sister, but every bit as pert. In fact, so clever is the packaging that SUV feels more spacious, and is similarly cornucopia’d with all manner of modern glory. Although MB EQ has a more luxurious model, the EQE SUV range starts with a respectable 300 model. Our EQE 300 SUV test car had one or two tasty extras, the best bits to be found inside the monumental cocoon. That’s not to say the smooth exterior lacks any kind of finesse.

Audi 3.3 second RS E-Tron GT My New Favourite Car. f Audi’s sizzling 4.1 second E-Tron GT gets your boy-juices flowing, then the 3.3 second RS E-Tron GT will have you reaching for the Kleenex, in a thoroughly wholesome and G-Rated kind of way of course. While some Audis have deliciously filthy V8’s that make you cry with yearning, GT e-Tron RS fans that yearning into a roaring blaze. It has a couple of hefty electric motors glued into its gusset that make those testosterone-laden man-magnets blush with embarrassment.

Looks are a matter of taste, and although some find Kia’s 2025 Sportage HEV too brutal, I think it is just Mad Max enough to gird my loins. Despite the slashes and crevices, there is still a sense of low-tech, old-school value and quality.
