Polestar has officially unveiled the Polestar 5, a four-door electric Grand Tourer that brings the brand’s 2020 Precept concept into production with minimal compromise. Designed as a statement of intent for Polestar’s future direction, the 5 now serves as its flagship, combining Scandinavian design, advanced technology, and sustainable engineering.
CEO Michael Lohscheller describes the car as “a guiding star for the industry,” highlighting its aerodynamic form, powerful motors, and consciously sourced materials. The 5-metre body features aviation-inspired surfacing, a wing-like profile, and a Kamm-style tail. The SmartZone nose integrates sensors and radar, flanked by dual blade Pixel LED headlights.
Gloss black or Shade cladding reduces the visual height of the 142 cm tall body, while the glasshouse and roofline follow the aerodynamic silhouette. Rear packaging innovations—such as a virtual rear window and repositioned header structure—preserve second-row space. A panoramic glass roof, over two metres long, enhances cabin light and openness.
At the rear, an aero-efficient lightbar and integrated diffuser contribute to a drag coefficient of just 0.24. Six exterior colours are offered, including matte finishes Storm and Magnesium.
Interior: Sustainable Materials and Passenger Comfort
The Polestar 5’s cabin is configured as a 4+1 layout, with Recaro-developed front seats featuring low hip-points and bolstering. Upholstery options include Charcoal MicroTech or Bridge of Weir Nappa leather in Charcoal or Zinc—sourced as a by-product of the food industry and free from chrome.
Rear passengers benefit from heating, ventilation, massage, and climate control via a central armrest. Raising the armrest creates a fifth seat with staggered shoulder space. A battery cutout behind the front seats adds foot space and improves posture.
Sustainable materials include ampliTex flax-based weave in the seatbacks, BComp’s powerRib structure in door panels and boot lining, and AutoNeum’s UltraSilent material in the frunk—saving 5 kg over traditional plastics. Recycled PET, Econyl carpets, and knitted deco wraps complete the mono-material strategy.
Driver-focused elements include a reclined seating position, upright steering wheel, and a 9-inch display mounted to the adjustable column. A 9.5-inch head-up display rounds out the cockpit.

Technology: Android OS, Premium Audio and Safety Systems
The centre console houses a rotary audio controller and lockable storage beneath a 14.5-inch portrait display running Polestar’s Android Automotive OS with Google built in. Four dynamic tiles and six shortcut functions offer customisation and ease of use.
Audio options include a 10-speaker Polestar system or a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup with Tweeter-on-Top and 1,680 watts. Laser-line ambient lighting wraps the cabin and finishes in a rear sound bar. Active Road Noise Cancellation enhances cabin refinement.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include Pilot Assist, SmartZone sensors, and a full suite of cameras and radars: 11 vision cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, one driver monitoring camera, and eight airbags. Interior radar detects occupant type and position for tailored safety response.
Performance Architecture and Powertrain
Built on Polestar’s new hot-cured bonded aluminium platform, the Polestar 5 achieves torsional rigidity beyond that of many supercars. The structure uses 13% recycled aluminium and 83% from renewable-powered smelters.
The 112 kWh battery (106 kWh usable) from SK On is integrated into the chassis. Brembo four-piston calipers and lightweight 400 mm discs save 12 kg over the Polestar 3 setup. Suspension includes passive BWI dampers on the Dual motor and MagneRide adaptive damping on the Performance model, reacting in just three milliseconds.
Michelin tyres, bespoke to each wheel size (20–22 inches), complete the handling package.
The Dual motor version delivers 550 kW and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The Performance model pushes 650 kW and 1,015 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Both are limited to 250 km/h.
An 800 V architecture enables charging up to 350 kW, with 10–80% charge in 22 minutes. Range is up to 670 km WLTP for the Dual motor and 565 km for the Performance.
Orders opened online on 8 September 2025 across initial launch markets.
