Refreshed Audi Q5 Gets Mild Hybrid Tech

The updated AUDI Q5 has arrived.

Refreshed Audi Q5 is has the latest Audi design language an updated exterior with standard 19” or 20“ alloy wheels.

New LED headlights are standard, and digital OLED tail lights come as an option in the new Q5 model range. There lights display a choreographed sequence of flashing lights as a warning signal to drivers who venture within a two-metre proximity of the rear end.

Q5 has Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Audi’s “virtual cockpit plus” replaces standard driver dials, along with the new 10.1-inch LCD touch Screen. Its high resolution (1,540 x 720 pixel) is displayed on a screen only 13mm thick.

There is also wireless Qi phone charging, two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, Digital DAB+ radio and 2 USB in the front and another two in the rear.

Q5 has two diesel engines and one petrol model with five model variationsin all: Q5 40 TDI quattro, Q5 45 TFSI quattro, Q5 40 TDI quattro Sport, Q5 45 TFSI quattro Sport and Q5 50 TDI quattro S line.

Q5 engine are now assisted by progressive Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology. Q5 40 TDI and 45 TFSI come with a 7-speed S tiptronic, driving the quattro all-wheel drive. Q5 50 TDI comes has an 8-speed tiptronic and a quattro system with a self-locking centre differential.

Entry level Q5 40 TDI gets an extra 10kW over the previous model, with 150kW/400Nm. Economy of 5.4 litres /100 km, and 70 litre fuel tank, gives a possible range of around 1,250 km. 0-100 is 7.6 seconds, and the top speed is 222 km/h. The new 12V MHEV engine is equipped with twin-dosing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), with double AdBlue injection. New Audi technologies reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOX) diesel emissions by more than 90 percent.

Q5 45 TFSI models has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine also with 12V MHEV, with 183kW/370Nm, and a 0-100 of 6.3 seconds.

The performance model 50 TDI has a 3.0-litre, V6 engine, 48-volt mild-hybrid engine with 210kW/620Nm, and a 100km/h of 5.7 seconds.

Q5 comes with keyless convenience key, a multi-function leather steering wheel with shift paddles, and new hands-on detection technology. Other highlights include leather appointed seats, electric front seats with 4-way electric lumbar support, 3-zone climate control air conditioning (with rear digital display), ambient interior lighting, an electric tailgate with gesture control and frameless auto-dimming interior mirror.

The cargo hold is 520 litres (1,520 litres with the backrests folded flat), and the rear seat folds 40:20:40. They can slides back and forward to provide extra luggage space or legroom, as needed.

Safety features include:

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection,
attention assist to mitigate lapsing concentration,
eight airbags, side assist,
active lane assist,
exit warning system,
hill descent control,
cross traffic assist rear,
parking system plus with reversing camera, tyre pressure monitor and pre-sense rear.

The Q5 40 TDI and 45 TFSI Sport adds 20-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof. Additional equipment highlights of Sport models include:

Sport front seats (with heating, driver memory)
Adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go (including traffic jam assist)
Collision avoidance assist
Turn assist
360-degree camera
Park assist
Audi sound system (10 speakers, 180 Watts including subwoofer)

The new 50 TDI S line is the top model. It has an intuitive electrically adjustable steering column, with memory and easy entry functions, and a head-up display as standard. The S line exterior design package includes:

Honeycomb pattern grill in titanium black
Distinctive front bumper design with trapezoid elements on each end with matt aluminium silver inserts
Illuminated door sill trims with S lettering
Rear diffuser with selenite silver trim

There are 12 exterior colours and four interior colour schemes.

Audi Q5 comes with a five-year service plan package, priced at $2,720 for the TFSI models or $3,160 for the TDI models.

Optional packages such as the Assistance package (available on the 40 TDI and 45 TFSI), Comfort package and the Technik package (both available on the Sport, S line and Launch Edition) are available.

Audi Q5 is made at the Audi San José Chiapa site in Mexico, which derives 100% of its power from renewable energy resources, generated by a photovoltaic plant in Chihuahua, Mexico.
