We often get asked “what’s your favourite car”, or “what’s the best car”.
The answer is as subjective and as varied as the owners and the cars they drive. There are few to challenge the vice-like grip Rolls Royce has on the luxury market. Many have tried and failed.
In order to answer the question therefore, there has to be context, otherwise, the perfect car is the one in your drive.
It we’re being a little more esoteric, then we can add context of our own. It is one of the many reasons we subjectively publish regular TOP 10 LGBTI cars.
For this, we’ve purposely stayed away from some the obvious choices unless there is only one option. The choice may not even be a new car. Perhaps classic cars are your thing, but always keep in mind that like old houses, old cars will probably take lots of kisses and cuddles, then break your heart.

The ideal beginner’s car is a safe one that isn’t too expensive. Kia’s Picanto is popular for learners, but expect dents.
The perfect SUV may well be a wagon, if you can find one. VW’s Golf Wagon is a great drive, but if you must have an SUV you have things to consider. Are you going off-piste? You can’t afford 100 grand on a Landcruiser, so what about the cheerful Suzuki Jimny? If it is a posh off-roader, Ranger Rover is the bomb.
Convertibles have a small market which is why there are so few of them. Mazda MX5 sits almost unbeaten as the best budget droptop, but it you have a few bucks in the back pocket, the LEXUS LC 500 Coupé is not only dripping with luxury but has the added benefit of being exclusive, even amongst the elite.
Supercars are a different kettle of fish. They are as rare as the people who can afford them. Here is where I’d go for a Lamborghini Miura. It is going to be as reliable as a modern Lambo anyway, right?
Most likely you’d go for a humble hatch. BYD make a 44grand EV and although an SUV, it is small enough to be a family hatch. Perhaps a humble Hyundai has haunted your hankerings, so the i30 can’t be beat.
What is the perfect car?
Here you were thinking you were going to get an answer, when really what you got was more options.
