16yo Rookie Oliver Wickham Dominates 2025 TGRA GR CUP

The 2025 TGRA GR CUP season has wrapped up at Sandown, and Australia’s motorsport scene has a new teen prodigy: 16-year-old Oliver Wickham. Barely old enough to drive a GR86 in real life, Wickham turned his rookie season into a masterclass of consistency, nerves of steel, and tactical brilliance. He didn’t just participate—he dominated, proving that age is just a number when you’ve got skill, focus, and a touch of racing magic.

Wickham, who started the season at just 15, placed in the top 10 in every race except the final one, where all he needed was to cross the line. He finished with 1036 points, 82 ahead of four-time race winner Lincoln Taylor, and comfortably ahead of the ever-consistent Jett Murray. That 18th-place finish in the final race was enough to secure the championship and a tidy $50,000 prize, while Taylor and Murray pocketed $30,000 and $15,000 respectively.

The final round at Sandown was nothing short of thrilling. Lincoln Taylor kicked things off with a bang, battling guest driver Zach Bates before claiming a safety-car win ahead of Bates and Lachlan Gibbons. Race two belonged to Pip Casabene, who pulled off a heart-stopping victory after sliding off the track on the last corner but somehow holding on to beat Taylor, with Wickham rounding out the podium. The finale? Rain-soaked chaos, collisions, and first-time glory for Joshua Anderson, who skilfully navigated the treacherous conditions to snatch his maiden TGRA GR CUP victory, while Wickham cruised conservatively to lock in the championship.

Awards night celebrated both speed and style. Wickham also snagged Best First-Year Driver, while Kade Davey earned the Kaizen Award for continuous improvement and teamwork. Lachlan Evennett Racing won Best Presented Team, and social media star Harry Tomkins bagged the Publicity Award.
