After a very long wait, the new 2022 Amarok promises car-like comfort, and a host of new features.
The new Amarok will be launched globally throughout 2022. New features include numerous driver assistance systems that VW claims are new in its segment. Not only has the new development brought driver aids, but off- road characteristics are superior to those previous models, and comes with more ground clearance.
The new “Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles” pick-up truck from Hannover, comes with a trusted V6 TDI. The brand new exterior brings an even sportier look to Amarok. VW goes on to claim the premium character of the interior has also been further enhanced.

The one complaint common to Pickup drivers is the lack of a premium feel to the cabin.
Amarok has a new level of comfort, operating concept, connectivity and ambience which VW says will raise the benchmark for pick-ups in the global one-ton B-segment to a whole new level.
“We emphasise the different, expressive front designs of our pick-up with a charismatic Amarok signature that is also found with very large letters on the cargo box at the rear and is sported very proudly by the Amarok,” says Albert-Johann Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Needless to say, a Euro pallet fits between the wheel housings again – and of course loads can be safely secured. “The styling bar as a visual extension of the double cab in the cargo box once again gives the Amarok’s body dynamic, aerodynamic and very strong proportions.”
Outside, the new Amarok is 10cm longer, at 5.35 metres, and it is also wider than the current version. There is more interior space especially legroom in the second row.
Volkswagen Amarok has been produced since 2010. Its name means “wolf” in North American Inuit language. The All New Amarok’s V6 diesel is standard, being in Australian Amaroks since 2016. The current model sold 815,000 units over those 12 years. The new model was developed by teams in Australia and Europe, and will be produced in Silverton in South Africa in future.
