The BMW 5-series signifies a certain level of success, and for me, something that an SUV doesn’t feel to equal. BMW 5-series is a little bigger in all directions: length by 97mm, width by 32mm, height by 36mm and wheelbase by 20mm. The new proportions are L:5,060mm, W: 1,900, H: 1,515, WB: 2,995mm

The BMW 5-series sedan comes in 3 models: the petrol-driven 153kW 520i mild hybrid, and 2 electric versions: the rear-wheel-drive 250kw i5 eDrive40, and an all-wheel-drive
442kw i5 M60 xDrive, with an excellent range of 582km and 516km respectively.

There is a raft of optional extras that can extend to cost price of the base car, especially on the 520i. There is metallic paint at $2,000, $4,400 or $7,000 depending on the colour. Cheekily, it is slightly cheaper on the i5. Merino leather adds $4,000, and there are alloys at $1,600 (20”) and $3,800 (21”). Again, the electric models have different pricing.

We’re not finished with 520i’s options yet. Some of the options can be packaged, with Enhancement Package of $5,400 for 21” wheels, Metallic paint, and Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound. The package is also available with BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue for $7,800 and BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey or Deep Grey for $10,400.

iDrive 8.5 offers video streaming and gaming, handy while charging at a public charger.

The curved display, and HUD gives drivers a panoramic experience, and a nifty parking system that can be controlled by an app or the key fob for a distance of 200m.

The Looks:

The 8th generation BMW 5-series is smoothed off, and the kidney grille is even more stylized than before. Twin headlights are slim, and the front end is carved with chunky angles, with vertical LEDS that serve as DTRIL, driving lights, and indicators.

All Australian BMW 5-series will come with the M Package, and the flush door handles as seen on other BMWs.
