Chery Released pricing and specification for its incoming mid-sized SUV, the TIGGO 7 Pro. A $39,990 drive-away price will have more than a few heads turning among the settled and complacent opposition. In fact, all 3 models have drive-away pricing seriously undercutting competitors. Over three million TIGGOs have found homes in over 80 countries, with TIGGO 7 Pro being Chery’s most “favoured and advanced TIGGO yet”. Chery re-entered the Australian market after an earlier failed effort.
It comes at a time when the Australian seems to be showing no signs of slowing down, with 109,966 new vehicles sold in August. Of those, 760 Chery vehicles were sold, for a total of 3,023 for the year. Keep in mind that the company was starting from scratch.
Since our Omoda5 Review, Chery has nabbed 3.1% of the segment (5.1% for the month of August). The leader, with a stunning 21.5% of the sales in the small “SUV under $45,000”, is MG with its ZS. The establishment has seriously underestimated buyer motivations, with some brands privately mocking the upstart Chinese car-maker. We think Chery will follow suit if their pricing remains in the ballpark.
Chery TIGGO 7 Pro is a new mid-size SUV and comes in 3 trim levels: Urban ($39,990), Elite ($41,990) and Ultimate AWD ($45,990). The Urban comes with dual 12.3-inch screens, seat heating, a panoramic sunroof and ambient interior lighting.

Driveline
All TIGGO 7 Pros have a modest 137kW/275Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol Euro 5 engine. Both 2 and AWD models have a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Chery claims fuel economy of 7.0L/100km with CO2 emissions of just 163g/km combined.
Chery’s “Diamond and Crystal”
Chery makes much of TIGGO 7 Pro’s Diamond and Crystal design language which will be used in TIGGO from now on. These touches include a diamond strewn front grille, and a “blue laser” front bumper detail.
There is a familiar look to the slim-ish LED headlamp and taillight clusters, and its twin exhausts. The look is fairly stylish, but if there is one thing the Chinese are good at, and that is not trying to reinvent the wheel. They’ve taken a look that is vaguely like its Korean and Japanese competitors, but made it cheaper, much cheaper.
The European brands are simply not in the price race, which probably explains VW’s boss telling executives that the company roof was on fire. It may also be the reason Volkswagen has once again slipped off the top-10 Australian best selling brands.
Chinese car makers have said in the past, that they are giving buyers a new car at a second-hand price, something the Euro-Snobs laughed at. But, they aren’t laughing now.
Technology and Safety
Now familiar to many new car shoppers will be twin 12.3” screens. All TIGGOs will have this size digital dash, something other brands only have in the range toppers.
The cabin includes our much-loved wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, and wireless phone charging. Drivers will be streaming tunes through a “high end” eight-speaker Sony audio system, something that again, will come as a shock to some of the other players in the market.
I used to ask these questions of the Koreans, but now I ask how these Chinese brands are doing it for the price.
Voice control is activated by saying Hello Chery” to make phone calls or fettle the music, however similar features can be made using Siri. If the Chery voice assistant offers nothing over and above the smartphone interface, it is more or less redundant.
The TIGGO 7 Pro 8 airbags, and smart driver and safety aids (ADAS), such as automatic emergency braking. These are needed for a 5-star ANCAP rating, and as the Chinese brands have all been aiming for 5-stars, we can assume Chery is as well.
Warranty:
Chery has kicked off on the right foot, meeting KIA’s standard 7-year unlimited km warranty. Kia was the first to offer a permanent 7-year warranty and was part of their meteoric rise to fame. Chery offers 7-year capped price servicing and up to 7 years of roadside assistance. The latter will no doubt require the TIGGO to be serviced at a Chery dealer in order to be available.
Presales Event Offer
Pre-sales for the Chery TIGGO 7 Pro start today, 20th of September. The first 500 buyers in the Pre-sales phase between 20/9 and 20/10 2023 will also get free scheduled servicing for 3 years/30,000 kms. That’s a nice little sweetener to entice anyone unsure about placing an order.
