Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP had a great qualifying Saturday at the Motul TT Assen. Maverick Viñales plazed a trail to a new lap record to knock Fabio Quartararo out of pole position.

- Viñales gets pole position which his first, after the Emilia Romagna GP last year which was also a race win. Viñales’ has seen 13 pole position starts in the premier class, to join Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau in the exclusive group. He previously had pole at Assen in Grand Prix in 2011 racing in the 125cc class.
- The Dutch TT has alternated between a Yamaha and a Honda rider since 2011. Maverick Viñales won the race riding a Yamaha In 2019.
- Fabio Quartararo, a GayCarBoys favourite, is second, for his 30th front row start in the premier class. This will be his 42nd race in MotoGP™, with a success rate of near 71.4%. Yamaha factory riders have scored a 1-2 start for the 2nd time recently, including Le Mans.
- Although Fabio Quartararo is the highest-placed French rider at no. 2, it brings to an end 6 successive races with a Frenchman on pole position.
- Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) comes in at fourth and is his best qualifier since his 3rd place start in Valencia 2020. Although he wants a podium premier class, his 2 previous MotoGP™starts at Assen have not added any points to his score card.
- Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) is in fifth and is his 4th time this year for a front row start. This year, he has been in either the front or second row.
- Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team), won his first MotoGP™ at Assen in 2016. This year he is in 8th This is the first time out of the front row since since his 14th place start at Teruel in 2020.
- Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) is in 9th spot. He has been in the front 3 row 8 times this year. Aprilia hasn’t had a top five finish since MotoGP™ started in 2002.
- Valentino Rossi (Petronas Yamaha SRT) is a crowd favourite. He has won 10 Dutch TTs, and has taken the 12th spot which his best start since his 11th place start in Barcelona.
- Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has not had a stellar return to racing after his crash and hospitalisation. He didn’t get in to Q2 for the 4th time. This comes after the same result in Italy 2015, Spain 2021, and Catalunya 2021. He has taken 20th place which is his worst qualifying result in MotoGP™.
