Five Historic Rolls-Royce Phantoms Star at Goodwood Revival 2025

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has rolled out the red carpet for Phantom’s centenary at Goodwood Revival 2025, staging a five-act tribute to the marque’s most iconic nameplate. Each Phantom on display is a character in its own right, representing a century of craftsmanship, eccentricity, and engineering excellence.

PHANTOM I BROUGHAM DE VILLE – ‘THE PHANTOM OF LOVE’ Commissioned in 1926 by Clarence Warren Gasque as a gift for his heiress wife Maude, this opulent creation is pure theatre. Think Aubusson tapestries, a hand-painted ceiling with gilded cornices, and a drinks cabinet topped with a French Ormolu clock flanked by porcelain vases filled with enamel flowers. It’s not a car—it’s Versailles on wheels.

PHANTOM II CONTINENTAL TOURING PARK WARD Built for high-speed European touring, this rare Continental variant was originally commissioned by American industrialist A Y Gowen. Chassis 92PY features a sunroof and a yellow-tinted sun visor, blending performance with panache. It’s the Phantom Henry Royce wanted for himself—streamlined, spirited, and unapologetically bespoke.

PHANTOM III Delivered in 1937 to Major Frederick Warren Pearl of Eaton Square, this elegant motor car has lived a transatlantic life, returning to the UK in 1989 and undergoing a full restoration before settling into its current role as a centenary showpiece.

PHANTOM IV LANDAULETTE The most exclusive Phantom ever made—only 18 exist—this regal model was reserved for royalty and heads of state. With a straight 8-cylinder engine and a chassis longer than the Silver Wraith, it remains in ceremonial use by the British royal family.

PHANTOM V – JAMES YOUNG PV22 Ordered by Marks & Spencer for chairman Lord Marks in 1963, this Midnight Blue PV22 is the epitome of executive elegance. With just 92,000 documented miles and coachwork by James Young, it’s a rolling archive of British business class.

Beyond the lawn, Phantom takes to the track. Four course cars will parade between races on the Goodwood Motor Circuit, proving that even after 100 years, Phantom still knows how to move—gracefully, powerfully, and with a touch of drama.

Andrew Ball, Head of Corporate Relations, summed it up: “No motor car has played such a pivotal role in shaping automotive and cultural history as the Rolls-Royce Phantom… Goodwood Revival is the perfect setting in which to celebrate this extraordinary motor car and its continuing legacy.”

The centenary celebration continues throughout 2025, with Phantom taking centre stage in a year-long programme of reverence, restoration, and road presence. Curtain up, engine on.
