Australia and New Zealand get Ford Bronco Basecamp in the second half of 2027. Ford broke the news by planting a chrome monument in a paddock and waiting for someone to jog past it.
Ultra-runner Nedd Brockmann found it on a trail run in regional NSW, with a group of runners for company. It was an oversized chrome copy of the Bronco badge, standing in open country. Ford opened an interest page for Bronco Basecamp featuring the stunt. The second half of 2027 is quite the wait from a chrome badge in a paddock to a bit of bling in a showroom.
Ford is backing Brockmann and Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge this year. It’s providing vehicles and helping raise money for We Are Mobilise, a homelessness charity. Brockmann is from the country and used to the odd surprise on a training run, but a chrome Bronco in the middle of the bush was, in his words, “a new one”. We love some genuine fake surprise.

Ford Bronco Basecamp Burns Petrol to Make Electricity
Dual electric motors drive the wheels, fed by a 49kWh usable battery, and the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine never touches a driveshaft. Its only job is charging that battery, a point we set out when the powertrain was first confirmed. Ford expects 800km to 900km combined WLTP.
What Ford Left Out
Ford Bronco Basecamp is aimed at trail runners and cyclists, at wild swimmers and fly fishers, and at stargazers, with an interior that converts into a sleeping space. Prices and further specification details to follow.
Marketing director Ambrose Henderson said the fit was immediate. Yes, we’re sure he did.
Ford looked at the national parks and coastal trails here, and at the distances people cover to reach them. “Outdoor life here isn’t a trend, it’s just life,” he said. “Bronco Basecamp was purpose-built for these customers.” Brockmann went on to say that you can stay out there and make a weekend of it instead of driving somewhere and driving straight home again. Bronco has been on sale for more than 60 years, from the original through to the Overland concept. None of them had an electric motor, so Bronco Basecamp is breaking a bit of new ground.
