Ford has had 8,000 expressions of interest for the F150 since releasing details earlier in the year, of the 2023 arrival of one of the most popular American trucks on Australian shores.
GM abandoned Australia after making promises of “being here for the long haul” several years ago. Rare Silverados are brought in by GMSV, and remain a bijou product. RAM on the other hand, has been a popular import and is “remanufactured” for local right hand drive sales. Ford’s F150 will also be a remanufactured vehicle in right hand drive, ready to go.
XLT and Lariat versions will be sold with a 298kw/768Nm V6 Ecoboost V6. It will tow 4.5 tonne, making the military grade body fit for duty as a tough truck for tradies.
Like its smaller sister, the Ranger, Ford F150 comes with SYNC 4, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, Rear View Camera5, Auto High Beams, Reverse Brake Assist, Reverse Sensing System and Post-Collision Braking.

The big output engine comes with a 10-speed automatic in a 4X4 Crew Cab body style. Both variants will be available in SWB (145-inch Wheelbase, 5.5-foot load box) and LWB (157-inch Wheelbase, 6.5-foot load box) configurations.
“When F-150 hits Australian showrooms, customers can rest assured it’s been put through the same local durability programme as Next-Generation Ranger and Everest which, of course, is the same programme left-hand drive F-150 went through in the States,” said Dave Burn, Performance and Customisation Chief Program Engineer, Ford Australia.
F150 covered around 135,000km at extremes of temperature between -40c and 50c. Conditions and testing included trailer towing, mud, ultra-fine sand, water crossings, and corrosion tests. With Ford backing the F150, and a large number of showrooms, the F150 promises to give the RAM a run for its money.
