GMSV Releases Details of C8 Corvette Stingray and Z06

Things sure have moved along since the days of the ‘vette being pretty, and ok in a straight line. There isn’t one among us who don’t long for an open road, and a Chevy Corvette of any year, let alone the stunning 2024 model.

After the demise of General Motor’s Australian subsidiary, Holden, HSV also rode into the setting sun. Holden Special Vehicles disappeared in 2020, to be replaced by General Motors Specialty Vehicles, or, GMSV. GMSV has since imported Silverado and Corvette models, though both are rare sightings on Australian roads, with Silverado starting at $124,000.

As the MY24 C8 Corvette approaches, GSMV Director Greg Rowe says, “We’re thrilled to announce a series of updates to the upcoming MY24 C8 Corvette, additions which will make an already phenomenal performance vehicle all the more outstanding. Included in this exciting news is more information about the sensational new Z06, a rear-wheel drive, mid-engine Supercar manufactured right-hand drive and featuring an exquisite power plant, hand assembled by a master engine builder at the home of Corvette, the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.”

General Motors exited right-hand drive markets, or at least that was the reason given for closing Holden at the end of 2020, 3 years after ceasing Australian production. It seems GM CEO Mary Barra had a change of heart. The new Corvette comes from the factory in righthand drive.

MY24 Corvette Z06 should be land in Australia and New Zealand late 2023. For those who can’t wait to see them, buyers can contact their local dealer to be added to current waitlists.

MY24 Corvette Z06

Corvette Z06 has a naturally aspirated 475kW/595Nm LT6 5.5L DOHC V8 engine.  Its all-new flat-plane crankshaft design lets the big V8 rev to 8,600 rpm.  Adding to the code brown action is the Z07 Performance Package which gives the Corvette 1.22g of track insanity.

Impressive Brembo braking comes courtesy of 370mm front discs, with 380mm at the rear. Z06 uses six-piston front callipers instead of Stingray’s four-piston setup. The 8-speed dual clutch automatic has a 5.56 final drive ratio and Z06-specific suspension tuning with standard Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 (FE6).

Australian Z06 models come with 3LZ trim, and with 20-inch forged aluminium ‘Spider’ wheels at the front and 21-inch at the back.

Also standard:

steering wheel with carbon fibre

carbon fibre shift paddles

sueded microfibre on the upper interior trim

leather-wrapped interior door panels and instrument panel

GT2 bucket seats with Napa leather upholstery and carbon fibre highlights.

Optional Z07 Performance Pack includes:

  • larger brakes with carbon ceramic rotors
  • carbon fibre aerodynamic elements including air strikes, larger front splitter, front dive planes and carbon fibre high wing spoiler
  • unique suspension tuning
  • ultra-performance tyres
  • carbon fibre wheels.

“Due to incredible global demand, the Corvette Z06 is a measured volume proposition, in keeping with its exclusive nature, availability will be very controlled,” said Mr Rowe.

“We appreciate this may disappoint many performance enthusiasts, but at the same time it will ensure those who do become a Z06 owner will know they possess a very special piece of automotive folklore.”
