Hyundai INSTER Snags 2025 World Electric Vehicle Title

The pint-sized powerhouse that is the Hyundai INSTER has just bagged the 2025 World Electric Vehicle award, and we’re positively buzzing about it. Announced during the glitzy goings-on at the New York International Auto Show, this marks Hyundai’s fourth year in a row topping one or more categories at the World Car Awards—clearly, someone’s on a hot streak.

Described by Hyundai’s top boss, José Muñoz, as “a winner with customers,” the INSTER won hearts (and votes) for its cute-but-capable design, zippy range, and bang-for-buck tech. Think rapid charging from 10–80% in 30 minutes and up to 360km of real-world range from the 49kWh model—all wrapped up in a compact package that wouldn’t look out of place parked outside a Bondi brunch spot or zipping silently through Fitzroy.

This win isn’t just a fluke. Hyundai’s shelves are already groaning with trophies for the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and the high-voltage hot hatch IONIQ 5 N. The INSTER might be the baby of the family, but she’s punching well above her weight, and we love to see it.

Chosen by 96 auto journos from 30 countries (including some with taste, obviously), this win is a big tick for Hyundai’s EV ambitions—and for drivers wanting a stylish, sustainable runabout that won’t cost the earth, literally or financially.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a proper win without a little sparkle—this time in the form of INSTER’s cheeky urban charm, smart-as-a-whip infotainment, and enough sass to rival a drag queen on finals night. Fabulous, darling. Just fabulous.
