In a move that’s as smart as it is sustainable, JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) has committed over £100 million to a massive reuse and recycling program across its UK and European operations — and the numbers are huge. This isn’t just about tossing a few old spanners into the recycling bin. We’re talking tens of thousands of tools and entire production lines getting a new lease on life as the brand gears up for the next phase of its electrification journey — including the sexily-yet-silent Range Rover Electric.

With Castle Bromwich shutting down last year, JLR has salvaged and repurposed over 50,000 square metres of equipment (about seven football pitches’ worth, if you’re keeping score). That kit has found new homes at major JLR facilities in the UK and Slovakia, with refurbished robots now buzzing away at Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre (EPMC).

And it doesn’t stop there. A whopping 18,600 tonnes of metal scrap from Castle Bromwich and Graz have been sent off for recycling, avoiding landfill and helping save 1,258kg of CO₂ emissions per tonne of new steel produced. Now that’s what we call putting the rev in revenue and reuse.

ABOVE: JLR Pushes Circular Economy with £100m Reuse

Andrea Debbane, JLR’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said the drive isn’t just about doing the right thing — though it absolutely is — it’s about improving profitability, supply chain resilience, and showing that circularity doesn’t have to cost the earth. “Sustainable choices are not always more expensive,” she said. “They can reduce costs and even become opportunities for growth and development.”

With a new in-house digital asset management system being rolled out to track every bit of kit from cradle to grave, JLR is laying the groundwork for a future where sustainability and luxury go hand in hand.

It’s all part of JLR’s transformation into a modern luxury business, where net-zero tailpipes are only the beginning. If this is what sustainability looks like, we’re here for it — in recycled leather seats, of course.
