Kia’s all-electric EV3 has taken a bold step into the spotlight with a top-tier “Very Good” rating in Euro NCAP’s assisted driving test—marking a first not just for Kia, but for the entire Hyundai Motor Group. It’s no small feat. In a world where driver assistance systems often range from vague nudges to overly intrusive interventions, the EV3’s Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) strikes a near-perfect balance of intelligent support and driver involvement.
The Euro NCAP assessment focused on two core criteria: ‘assistance competence’ and ‘safety backup’. The EV3 scored 74 out of 100 for its intelligent assistance, and an impressive 88 out of 100 for its fallback safety systems, culminating in a combined score of 162—enough to snag the elusive “Very Good” badge. This places the EV3 in a very exclusive club of vehicles that can confidently manage high-speed driving, lane changes, and emergency scenarios while keeping the driver informed and engaged.
The HDA 2 system combines adaptive cruise control, lane centring, and real-time driver monitoring to deliver smooth, confident motoring on motorways. It can even bring the vehicle safely to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive—ideal for long-distance commuters, family road-trippers, or anyone who’s ever zoned out in Sydney traffic.

Kia Europe’s VP of Product and Marketing, Pablo Martinez Masip, put it best: “This excellent outcome reflects Kia’s commitment to delivering advanced technologies that enhance driver convenience and passenger safety.”
But the EV3 isn’t just brains—it’s beauty and practicality too. Already crowned 2025 World Car of the Year, UK Car of the Year, and TopGear.com’s Best EV Crossover, the EV3 is Kia’s statement of intent. It’s purpose-built for the compact SUV market with a segment-leading range of up to 375 miles (600km), and an interior that’s more Scandi-chic lounge than budget runabout. With flat floors, a clever centre console, and recyclable materials, it’s equal parts sustainable and stylish.
Currently rolling out across Europe, Kia will also offer an all-wheel-drive variant soon, catering to drivers who want extra grip without losing the EV3’s comfort and tech.
In short? Kia’s EV3 has gone from “interesting concept” to genuinely compelling all-rounder. Whether you’re a tech-loving urbanite, a safety-conscious parent, or just someone who enjoys not crashing into things, the EV3 is fast becoming the small SUV to beat.
