Lexus has been playing it a bit safe with their electric transition, but the gloves have finally come off with the Special Edition RZ 600e F Sport Performance. This isn’t just a badge-engineered exercise in marketing; it’s a focused, low-slung, carbon (ish)-clad signal that Lexus is ready to take the “Driving Signature” into the high-voltage era. If the standard RZ was a polite introduction, this is the punchy, no-nonsense follow-up we’ve been waiting for.

Built for the Bends, Not Just the Brochure

The first thing you notice is the stance. Lexus dropped the ride height by 20mm compared to the RZ 550e. In the real world, that means a lower center of gravity and a significant reduction in aerodynamic drag. But they didn’t stop at the suspension. The body is draped in exclusive aerodynamic components, including a carbon hood bulge, a massive roof and rear wing combo, and carbon turning vanes. These aren’t just for show—they are designed to glue this 2.1-tonne machine to the tarmac when the roads get twisty.

Under the skin, they’ve squeezed more juice out of the motors. By reassessing battery output limits, the system now pumps out a combined 313kW. That’s enough to shove you into the back of your seat and hit 100km/h in a sharp 4.4 seconds. It delivers that immediate, exhilarating EV shove, but with a level of stability that suggests Lexus spent a lot of time on the track.

Anchors and Control

There is no point in going fast if you can’t stop, and this is where the RZ 600e gets serious. Lexus has fitted massive 20-inch brake rotors clamped by six-piston blue monoblock calipers. The brake feel has been recalibrated for sports driving, offering a mechanical, connected sensation rather than the mushy regenerative feel found in many commuter EVs.

The tech suite is equally focused. You get the next-gen Steer-by-Wire system paired with a unique steering wheel that looks like it belongs in a cockpit. When combined with “Interactive Manual Drive,” it adds a layer of engagement that makes you feel like a driver rather than just a passenger in a mobile computer.

A Cabin with Character – sort of

Inside, the “F Sport Performance” vibe continues. You’re held in place by tasty Ultrasuede sports seats featuring integrated foam molding—designed to keep your ribs intact during high-G cornering without sacrificing the refinement you expect from a Lexus. The interior is accented with blue stitching and “black hazel” cup holders, contrasting with the matte HAKUGIN II or Neutrino Gray exterior finishes.

This is said to be a car for the driver who wants the efficiency of a BEV but refuses to drive a soulless appliance. It’s honest, it’s aggressive, and it finally gives the RZ some much-needed street cred, or is it trying too hard?
