Meet Saietta Group’s Clever In-wheel EV Platform

Saietta Group’s AFT 140 electric motor technology uses in-wheel motors for lightweight electric vehicles operating in city centres around the world.

Mega-cities are seeing the gradual banning of large internal combustion engines. However people need to move, deliveries need to be made, and rubbish needs taking out.

Saietta thinks a new way of making vehicles is needed for inner cities. Smart electric mobility platforms could see solution where passenger, commercial, and light industrial vehciles could use the same battery/motor platform. This drives down the price while increasing the ability to adapt.

By moving motors into the wheels, a flat floor has almost no intrusion into the internal space. It opens the use right up. Suddenly, the vehicle becomes more than just something for transporting people or cargo. It could be used for a mobile shop, collecting rubbish, or even a library. It is true that we aleady have those things now, the new platform allows maximum space with a big rectangular box affording more space than you would ever get from a conventional van.

Most smart mobility platform makers put the motors outboard but not in-wheel. Saietta’s AFT motors circular ‘pancake’ shape will fit neatly into the actual wheels. Not only that, but they operat at low voltage, making much safer.

In-wheel motors have fewer parts, and this lack of complexity makes for a light vehicle, with a much lower cost than other platform types.

Most urban mobility vehicles are low-speed in stop-start inner city traffic. Saietta’s compact AFT electric motors are a great match match to this relatively undemanding application. The AFT 140 motors are very efficient on these urban trip and will go much further on a single charge.

Not only that, the Saietta system is incredibly effective in its regenerative braking. While this isn’t unusual on EVs, this platform makes the best use of it, not only capturing more energy, but being able to use it cost effectively.
