Ford released pricing and specification for its all-new seventh-generation Ford Mustang.
Mustang comes as a 3-model lineup: EcoBoost, GT and the all-new Mustang Dark Horse. EcoBoost uses a 2.3L 4-cylinder Turbo, and the GT/Mustang Dark Horse have 5.0-litre V8 engines of differing outputs.
EcoBoost Fastback costs $64,990. GT comes as fastback with a six-speed manual for $77,002, or ten-speed automatic at $80,902, or a convertible automatic for $86,752.
1,000 special edition Mustang Dark Horse will be the first new Mustang performance nameplate in 21 years, and comes with a TREMEC six-speed manual for $99,102 MLP or the range topping automatic coming in at $103,002 MLP. Mustang Dark Horse is in Fastback only.
“We are thrilled to bring the new seventh-generation Ford Mustang to Australia,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia. “The Mustang has always been a favourite among Australian drivers, and the new model takes the experience to a whole new level. It’s sure to make owners smile every time they drive it.”
“We are confident that the new Mustang will be a hit with Australian drivers,” said Birkic. “The car’s improved performance, handling, and the addition of the Mustang Dark Horse special edition make it a great choice for anyone looking for an exhilarating driving experience.”
The new Mustang is now available with first customer deliveries in Q2 2024.
Mustang Styling
At first glance, the 7th generation looks like a logical progression of the 6th generation 2024 Mustang. Why mess with a success?
The body has a few more angles, and an upper grille shape with the faintest whiff of the original 1960s classic. LED headlamps have become one of Mustang’s signature defining features, and the low roof and pert rump continue the success of the outgoing car,
4th Gen Coyote 5.0L V8
Paired with a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the revised fourth generation Coyote 5.0L V8 has dual 80mm throttle bodies and air inlets which work together to maximise power. A dual-fuel delivery system has high-pressure direct-injection and low-pressure port fuel injection, for better low-end torque and more high-rpm power.
Revised Turbo for EcoBoost Engines
The revised 2.3L EcoBoost is mated to a 10-speed automatic with Select Shift and paddle shifters. Updates include a revised exhaust manifold, revised twin-scroll, low-inertia turbo with electronic wastegate, revised camshaft timing and integrated air-induction system. The revision deliver better low-end torque and more high-rpm power by using the Port injection for low engine speed and direct-injection for high-rpm operation.

Electric Park Brake, with ‘Drift’ Brake[3]
Unusually for an electric brake, Mustang’s brake operates normally in parking mode. It is clad in leather giving the look and feel of a traditional hand brake. On the racetrack, Track Drive Mode allows the electric brake to be used for drifting.
Active Valve Performance Exhaust
Active Valve Performance Exhaust helps reduce back pressure for improved power and a sexier Mustang snarl. There 4 modes fettled by a button on the steering wheel or through the infotainment system touchscreen: Normal, Sport, Track and a Quiet mode, for sneaking home on late nights out.
Track Apps:
- Acceleration Timer
- Accelerometer
- Brake Performance
- Lap Timer
- Launch Control (manual transmission only)

Performance
Australian Mustangs will come with performance options as standard: BremboTM brakes, a larger radiator, and more powerful cooling fans. V8 GTs have an auxiliary engine oil cooler, 19×9” front and 19×9.5” rear Carbonised Grey-painted aluminium wheels clad with 255/40R19 front and 275/40R19 rear Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
Mustang Dark Horse
The specially fettled 349kW8/548Nm 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine has either a six-speed TREMEC manual transmission with 3D-printed titanium shift ball, or a 10-speed automatic with sport paddle shifters.
Mustang Dark Horse is lavished with auxiliary brake cooling ducts, a transmission cooler and rear axle cooler, unique chassis tuning with stiffer front springs, and uniquely tuned MagneRide 9 shocks. The latter monitors wheel and tyre movement 1,000 times per second.
Mustang Dark Horse has 19 by 9.5-inch front and 19 by 10-inch rear wheels with Brembo front six piston brakes with 390mm rotors. Finally, Mustang Dark Horse has a Torsen differential which makes the big coupé a real track choice.
The Cabin
Ford claims the new interior is most technologically advanced, driver-centric cockpit of any Mustang to date. Some say the outgoing model looked a little flat and cheap in places, but the new Mustang uses 2 screens to form a curved display in a way that has become familiar in many brands today
The 12.4” driver cluster is inspired by video games, and changes with drive mode selection.
“We’re taking advantage of every pixel,” said Craig Sandvig, Ford Mustang interaction design manager.
“We can be creative in showing necessary driving information and give the driver control of selecting vibrant colour schemes new to Mustang, classic Mustang gauges or even a ‘calm’ screen where only minimal details are displayed.”
The driver display curves around to meet the 13.2-inch SYNC 4 screen that is tilted towards the driver, fighter jet style, pushing the sound through a B&O Sound System with 12 speakers including a subwoofer.
A leather-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering wheel has microsuede inserts with Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching. There are anodised silver paddle shifters for the 10-speed automatic models, and a drive mode thumb button.
There is more Indigo Blue stitching on door panels, seats, gear shift boot and centre console, matched to blue seatbelts and optional Recaro seats in Deep Indigo Blue.
Interior trim, bezels and vents in “Black Alley”, a dark metallic gloss, replaces sliver trim on the old model.
Dark Horse
Mustang Dark Horse has a shadow graphic around darkened LED headlamps, gloss black grille and a unique lower front bumper with high gloss ‘fangs.’ The race loo includes lower side skirts a fixed rear wing, race-inspired diffuser, darkened quad exhaust tips and Dark Horse badges on the front quarters, boot and door sills. The exterior is finished off by a darkened, anodized pony badge. More Mustang Dark Horse badging can be seen on the instrument panel and digital display screens, with each car having an individual special edition chassis number.
