Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Edition R Goes on Sale at $159,900

Mercedes-AMG has added an Edition R version of the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé to its Australian range, priced at $159,900 before on-road costs.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Edition R went on sale at Australian dealerships on 24 July 2026. It is a higher-specification version of the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé rather than a new model. It adds exterior styling parts, forged wheels and the AMG Performance Seat Package to the existing car.

The mechanical package carries over unchanged.

What the Edition R Adds

The main change is the AMG Styling Package, offered on the CLE 53 Coupé in Australia for the first time. It brings a revised front apron with additional side flics. There is also a high-gloss black rear apron and a larger AMG spoiler lip.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Edition R also gets 20-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels in matt black with a high-sheen outer flange. AMG TRACK PACE, the performance data recording and analysis system, is standard too.

Those parts sit alongside kit already fitted to the CLE 53. That list takes in the AMG-specific radiator grille, flared wheel arches, the AMG Night Package and AMG Exterior Night Package II.

Inside the Edition R

Cabin changes centre on the AMG Performance Seat Package. It combines AMG Performance front seats, ARTICO and MICROCUT upholstery and red seat belts.

A metal structure trim element and a metal effect centre console are also new. Both use trim ideas seen on earlier Edition R models.

The rest of the interior is shared with the standard car. That means an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and MICROCUT microfibre. AMG illuminated door sills and AMG floor mats are fitted as well.

The Drivetrain Is Unchanged

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Edition R keeps the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six with integrated starter generator technology. Drive goes through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive.

AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, rear-axle steering and AMG DYNAMIC PLUS also carry over. No revised power, torque or acceleration figures have been quoted for the Edition R.

Standard Equipment

Equipment carried over from the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé includes AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes and a Burmester 3D surround sound system. A panoramic sliding sunroof, DIGITAL LIGHT and MBUX Navigation Premium are also standard. So are a head-up display, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Brake Assist.

Price and Availability

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Edition R is listed at $159,900 (MRLP). That figure includes GST and any luxury car tax on the base specification. It excludes on-road costs such as registration, stamp duty, CTP and dealer delivery.

Drive-away pricing varies between states and territories, so buyers need to contact a retailer for a figure that applies to them.

Edition R specification has appeared on other AMG models here before. One is the Mercedes-AMG C 43 Edition R+ at $121,200. In other AMG news, the brand has also shown an 860kW electric GT 4-door coupe.
