Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is the first full-size SUV AMG developed entirely in-house in its 59-year history, and the second car built on the AMG.EA electric architecture.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV orders open n Europe on the 20th of October, the GT 53 will start at 113,050 eurosi. The GT 63 and GT 55 follow in European spring 2027. Australian prices and further specification details will come closer to the local launch.
The GT 63 uses the same 3 axial flux motors as the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and matches its 860kW peak output. Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is assembled at Sindelfingen in Hall 32, which was retrofitted for AMG.EA production. The plant, founded in 1915, also produces the pressed parts, body-in-white, and the paintwork.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV motors and outputs
The GT 63 and GT 55 use 3 axial flux motors. The rear axle has a pair of them in a single housing, each with its own planetary gearbox. The front axle gets a single motor with a spur gearbox and an integrated parking lock. A Disconnect Unit decouples the front motor under light loads to cut drag losses. It reconnects for acceleration and regenerative braking.

The GT 53 has 2 synchronous motors, front and rear. Its front motor also decouples under light loads. The rear uses a 2-speed transmission. First is short, for standing starts and city traffic, and second suits motorway speeds.
All 3 models use AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The GT 63 and GT 55 add torque vectoring between the rear wheels. Pulling both paddles in the C, S, or S+ modes triggers boost for more power and torque and a sharper accelerator. It also tightens the seatbelts. Boost lasts 63 seconds in the GT 63, 55 seconds in the GT 55, and 53 seconds in the GT 53.
| GT 63 | GT 55 | GT 53 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motors | 3 axial flux | 3 axial flux | 2 synchronous |
| Peak power/torque | 860kW/2,000Nm | 600kW/1,860Nm | 400kW/800Nm |

| Top speed (Driver’s Package) | 270km/h | 270km/h | 250km/h |
Those 0-100km/h times are without a rollout. With a 1-foot rollout, the GT 63 does 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds and 0-200km/h in 6.8 seconds.
Batteries and charging
Every Mercedes-AMG GT SUV uses an 800V battery with directly cooled cylindrical cells. The GT 53 gets a 106kWh pack, and the GT 63 and GT 55 offer it or a 128kWh pack. The cells are 105mm tall and 26mm in diameter, with laser-welded aluminium housings and an NCMA cathode with a silicon-containing anode. Energy density is over 298Wh/kg. Non-conductive oil flows directly around each cell to cool it.

Combined consumption is 20.9 to 23.8kWh/100km for the GT 63 and GT 55, and 18.8 to 21.1kWh/100km for the GT 53.
The body-in-white is a new design that mixes aluminium and steel with fibre-reinforced composites. The battery is mounted centrally in a protective safety box that forms part of the crash structure. A Central Coolant Hub combines pumps and valves in a compact housing for a single large cooling circuit. It can direct cooling to the drive units when the battery doesn’t need it.
Suspension and brakes
AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ is standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55. Active hydraulic elements replace conventional anti-roll bars, fed by a central pump with controlled valves. The system adds triple-stage air springs, an 8.2L pressure reservoir, and hydraulically interconnected dampers. Ride height adjusts in near real time, lowering at speed to cut drag, and limits dive under braking and nose lift under acceleration.
Suspension is multi-link front and rear, with the front link, steering knuckles, and front wheel carriers being forged aluminium to cut unsprung mass. Standard active rear-axle steering turns the rear wheels turn opposite to the fronts below 80km/h with up to 6 degrees of adjustment. Above 80km/h they turn up to 1 degree in the same direction.

Vertical slats in the front bumper, called the AEROKINETICS Airpanel, stay shut to cut drag. They open when temperatures pass set thresholds and more cooling air is needed. The GT 63 and GT 55 also get an active roof spoiler that moves from 150km/h. It lowers drag or adds stability and traction depending on how the car is being driven. The drag coefficient is 0.27 for the GT 63 and GT 55, and 0.28 for the GT 53.
