New for Audi:- the refreshed Audi S8 flagship sedan range

A8 has been at the top of the Audi tree since 1994.

Heroic performance and incredible handling
Audi S8 4.0-litre TFSI V8 has an im pressive 420kW/800Nm, good for a 0-100 of 3.8 seconds, and on to an electronic limit of 250 km/h. Audi S8 how has mild hybrid technology (MHEV) as well as demand technology (CoD).

48-volt mild-hybrid captures up to 8 kW of otherwise wasted energy. The start/stop system uses the 48v electrical system, saving up to 0.8 litres L/100km. Adding to the fuel savings, cylinder on demand (CoD) shuts down four cylinders when power is not required, to give an official economy figure of 10.5L/100km.

The V8 has a distinctive sound, with its 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing sequence, amplified through the S8’s dual exhaust system.

S8 uses an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, and Audi quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Under normal driving conditions, 60 of the torque goes to the rear wheels, with up to 8% in sportier modes.

Adding to the ride and handling is S8 Predictive active suspension, using multiple sensors to adjust as directed by the modes.

Exterior design
Refreshed S8 has a wide, upright Singleframe grille fronting the S8’s muscular body and contoured roofline. Quad-oval tailpipes finish the butch look.

Standard 21-inch Audi Sport, 10-Y-spoke wheels, showcase red brake calipers, black exterior styling, metallic paint and privacy glass for the rear windows all as standard. All up, there are nine exterior colours and three interior schemes.

Headlights are the Digital Matrix LED headlights; first seen on the e-tron S.

Audi’s system dwarf’s competitor offerings, with each headlight having around 1.3 million micromirrors to pixelate the light with maximum precision. The design is based on a technology abbreviated as DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) sharing the same technology used in many video projectors.

The enhanced S8 rear lights use digital OLED that have a proximity indication feature to increase visibility.

The taillight signature changes with mode, and adjusts automatically when stationary. This combination gives the Audi S8 the most advanced lighting system on the market.

Luxe interior
S8 has wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, as well as the Audi virtual cockpit plus with head-up display.

The Bang & Olufsen 3D premium sound system (23 speakers, 1,920W) now has digital TV functionality as standard. Optional 10.1 inch rear screens can stream content from passengers’ devices as well as audio and video streaming platforms and TV media libraries.

To make getting in and out easier, the S8’s predictive active suspension lifts by 50mm when a door handle is opened.

The interior is festooned in Valcona leather, with carbon vector and dark brushed aluminium inlays.

As expected, the steering wheel is heated, and the front seats have heating, cooling and massage functions. For added luxury, the front armrests are also heated.

Those in the back aren’t forgotten. Electric outer rear seats have memory and heating, and there is a panoramic sunroof and electric sunblinds, with everything operated from the rear remote control. S8 has Matrix LED reading lights for a touch of luxury

Five-year service plans may be bought at any stage during the 1st 12 months of ownership for $4,030.

The 5 year Audi Advantage packages can be extended by 2 years, including full factory warranty, 2 years of scheduled servicing and 2 years of roadside for $4,800. These packages can be purchased back-to-back, giving owners the option to include the cost of warranty, servicing and roadside assistance for up to 9 years at the time of purchase.
