Monte Carlo was the setting for Nissan’s Ariya to break cover. It took a drive around the Circuit de Monaco in the glamorous French Riviera.

It is an electric SUV/crossover with a sleek and modern look to it. Nissan went to great pains to showcase the Ariya against the stylish Monaco backdrop. Ariya lapped the same street circuit that has hosted Nissan’s latest electrifying journey in Formula E.

ABOVE: 2021 Nissan Ariya Debuts in Monte Carlo on the Monaco GP circuit
“Ariya’s public driving in the streets of Monaco is a great way to witness the capabilities of our e-4ORCE technology. Ariya is the epitome of Nissan’s innovation in electric mobility and this event marks a defining moment in the next chapter of Nissan’s EV journey.” said Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President, Product Strategy and Pricing, Nissan AMIEO.
Nissan claims the look, feel and technology are revolutionary in their new EV design. Ariya is all-electric, and in a segment now called the “coupé crossover”, as if we didn’t have enough twee names. However, it does indicate a new for Nissan’s electric future, making the current range look a bit drab. It has” advanced connectivity”, technology, a range of battery capacities to give drivers a choice when they walk into a showroom.
Nissan also claims “the unique e-4ORCE drivetrain, Ariya is designed to enrich people’s lives through a seamless, intuitive and adaptive experience”. Sounds like marketing to me!
Nissan’s electric models have been best sellers for over a decade, and their EV expertise extends to the racetrack, and the open road.
Formula E has become a bit of a crowd pleaser. The F1 inspired electric cars show us that an EV is every bit as capable as a petrol or diesel powered vehicle.
The thrilling races highlighted possibilities for electric vehicles. Ariya’s first drive on the Circuit de Monaco is something everyone can experience, should you find yourself driving through the Riviera.
Not to be out done, the new season, will see Nissan’s Formula E team underlining the connection between a race car, and road-going EV. To celebrate the 2020/2021 season, the Nissan team named car No. 22 “LEAF”, and car No. 23 “Ariya” to further tie their race cars to their road cars. It is a nice touch, and a stroke of marketing genius.
