Genesis G80 and GV80 Get ANCAP 5 Star Rating

Genesis GV80 SUV and G80 sedan have been given a ANCAP five-star safety rating. ANCAP is independent of the car makers so their ratings are highly prized.

GV80 was the first Genesis SUV and is the high riding sibling of the G80 luxury sedan.

It received top marks in many of the testing segments including: Full points in – the side impact,  oblique pole tests, and both child occupant protection tests. The duo also got top marks in the front passenger frontal offset test and the driver in the full width test.

Like the GV80 SUV, the G80 sedan got excellent all-round results. It got full scores is in the side impact and far-side impact crashes.  Rear-seat adults got excellent protection in the full-width frontal tests. Considering this is a car that might often have rear seat occupants, this is great news.

G80 is also lauded for being able to prevent rear-end and turning-across-path crashe. It has advanced AEB which watches out for other objects, regardless of where the obstacles are. The G80 performed particularly well in the avoidance of car-to-car crashes.

“These are impressive results”, said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.

“The GV80 also gives consumers some insight into ANCAP’s future plans, with all variants equipped as standard with a Child Presence Detection system. While this feature is not yet scored as part of the official ANCAP rating process, it paves the way for a new aspect we’ll be introducing from 2023,” Ms Hoorweg added.

Connal Yan, Genesis Country Manager for Genesis Motors Australia, commented: “We are very proud to achieve five-star ANCAP ratings for our two newest models, GV80 and G80, it demonstrates our clear commitment to providing a first-class customer experience with safety as standard.”

GV80 and G80 join other Genesis, Hyundai, and KIA models in the full range of safety technologies that is shared across models and brands.

GV80 and G80 has a highly rigid body structure, and 10 airbags, including centre airbag. This helps keep the heads of front passengers from hitting each other during impacts, particularly those from the side.
