Recalls are not a rare thing and can be issued for the smallest of defects. In the case of Porsche Taycan, the design deficiency has not properly sealed the high voltage battery with a recall issued in October. The reader contacted GayCarBoys recently for advice having only recently been made aware of the recall and it prompted us to think that other might be in the same boat. There might even been other recalls that readers aren’t aware of. The Takata airbag recall has taken well over a decade and we may never know if all airbags were replaced.
Back to the Taycan: batteries are usually installed at the lowest point on a vehicle in order to keep the heavy components at a place that also has the advantage of lowering the centre of gravity. The underbody is also the most vulnerable part of a car. It is likely to see most moisture, and is more likely to be damaged by rocks in the case of SUVs.
Taycan however, is a 4-door luxury sports car, and the most action it will see is being driving around town or to an airport.

ABOVE: Porsche Taycan
The recall affects 231 Taycan cars, whose batteries might allow moisture into the pack. This ingress could cause arcing leading to a fire. The recall states that “If a sufficient amount of moisture enters the high-voltage battery arcing can occur, which increases the risk of fire causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.”
This follows the recall of 911 Carrara (992) models with airbag software likely to deploy “unnecessarily” in an accident.
What to do
No matter the product, a recall could be serious enough to cause injury. Follow the instructions, which for Taycan, is to have the car inspected and repaired.
It is worth noting that recalls are common and a sign that the brand is taking action. It is when there are obvious signs of strife such as seen in the DSG and dieselgate debacles, with no action taken, that owners should be worried.
535 Taycans were sold in 2023, and 430 in 2022, so total numbers are small.
