Suzuki e Vitara Electric SUV Arriving in Australia June 2026



Suzuki is finally plugging in, and they aren’t doing it quietly. The all new e Vitara lands in Australia June 2026, marking a shift for a brand that usually sticks to what it knows. This isn’t just a battery swap of an old favorite, it is a ground up build using the new Heartect-e platform specifically for electric power. Would the brand have been better off sparking an all-new model range? Is it banking too much on the reputation of a long-running nameplate?

The rather handsome exterior design is called Adventure SUV, which is corporate speak for looking like it actually wants to go somewhere. It has a tough look about it. The sharp LED lights and surface sculpting looks significantly more modern than the petrol models we are used to. Inside, they have mercifully kept physical switches for the climate control, a win for anyone tired of spelunking through a treacherous cave of poorly laid out touchscreens just to defrost a window. You still get the tech, including a 10.1 inch display and a digital cluster, but it feels like a Suzuki, meaning it is functional, not fragile. It looks good inside and out.

Two variants are coming to local showrooms, Motion and Ultra. The Motion is the entry point, featuring a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and front wheel drive. It produces 106kW and 193Nm, with a range of 344km. It is the city crawler of the pair, coming with 18 inch alloys, a 360 degree camera, and a suite of safety gear like adaptive cruise and autonomous emergency braking.

If you want the real Suzuki experience, the Ultra is the one to watch. It packs a larger 61kWh battery and the Allgrip-e four wheel drive system. This setup uses independent motors on each axle to deliver 135kW and 307Nm. The range bumps up to 395km, and you get extra fruit like a glass roof, wireless charging, and an Infinity sound system.

Now for the catch. Suzuki says you can charge from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes, but they are being strangely shy about the actual maximum DC rate. When brands hide the number, we get suspicious. Based on that 45 minute window, you are likely looking at a measly 70kW peak, which is well behind the pace of modern rivals. If you are planning a road trip, you will be spending plenty of time at the charger.

There is also the elephant in the room, safety. We haven’t forgotten the absolute disaster that was the recent Fronx launch, which copped a pathetic one star ANCAP rating. Independent testing revealed “poor” protection and a rare seatbelt retractor failure that left rear dummies unrestrained. Suzuki eventually issued a recall, but it left a sour taste. We will be watching very closely to see if this e Vitara is built to global standards or if they have cut corners again to save a buck.

Critically, Suzuki is fitting a heat pump as standard across the range. This is a big deal because many rivals make you pay extra for it, yet it is essential for keeping the battery efficient when the weather turns. Suzuki Australia is already taking expressions of interest. While the brand has been slow to the EV party, the e Vitara looks like a calculated, practical entry that doesn’t sacrifice the lightweight DNA they are known for.

It is up against better equipped Chinese competition and the legacy brands need to start meeting the market if they’re to prosper. We will wait and see.
