Is Nissan Navara N-TREK a sexy pick-up truck? You bet it is. Based off the range-topping Nissan Navara Dual Cab 4X4 ST-X, N Trek is intended to be something a bit different for those with a bit of spare cash. Last year, SL-based “Silverline” and ST “Black Edition” – both quickly sold out. This permanent ST-X alternative is also [...]

Is Mazda CX-9 Azami Worth the Money?

Kodo design means svelte, sexy, exteriors that flow as natures flows. Talk like that usually means bugger all if it’s got a face like a robber’s dog. Such is not the case here. Mazda CX-9 has a handsome face, if a trifle conservative. It’s a face that looks great on the smaller cars like Mazda CX-3, and MX-5. On larger vehicles though, the language is little stretched. Thin LED headlights are fully automatic, including their high beam. An enormous shield shaped grille sports a “Mazda Wings” emblem that conceals the radar for the smart cruise control. 20” wheels looks suitably commanding, and the whole thing is trimmed with lashings of chrome and strategically placed blackouts to make the massive SUV look a little less like a block of flats with wheels.

Some say Range Rover’s Velar is the “Fabio” of the car world. Well OK, I’m the only one to have said that, but beautiful it is, and it is smart too. The special edition model is crammed full of useful goodies which are either smart or pretty, or both. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHIGF-LzB1A Exterior Flux Silver is the $13,120 satin-finish covering the [...]

Fun QX 30: the AWD baby Infiniti

A product of a platform sharing partnership with Mercedes Benz, a keen eye might spot a more than a few similarities with a Mercedes GLA when it, and the QX30, park side-by-side. There is a vague likeness of roofline and size, but the Infiniti has injected personality with gratuitous surface sculpting and chrome detailing. What looks like glass at [...]

Brilliant Hyundai Tucson Elite: how do they do it for the price?

Yes we like: zippy engines, excellent equipment level, great ride and handling No we don’t: no car play in top models, no auto braking on bottom models I’m puzzled by the continued growth of SUVs which now outnumber passenger cars. The buyer profile is: anyone who wants lots of space. Most of you probably won’t need 7 seats but if [...]

Lexus bangs out a new RX SUV and it’s a cracker, with batteries

By |2019-06-29T16:43:22+10:00July 20th, 2016|Car Reviews by Brand, Lexus Reviews, SUV, SUV Large|0 Comments

Yes, yes, yes, oh YES: looks, space, quietness, economy Oh dear me no: fiddly infotainment interface, cost, no CarPlay/Android Auto It feels like a very long time since Toyota started flogging cars with batteries in Australia. I was a doubter. Back then, replacement batteries cost princely $7,500 to replace. Lack of government backing meant most buyers continued to prefer [...]

Ford’s Kuga: A Focus in a butcher frock

By |2023-04-07T17:10:45+10:00August 12th, 2013|Ford Reviews, SUV, SUV Small|3 Comments

What’s going on? What’s with the veritable flood AWD’s, 4WD’s and 2WD SUV’s? Why are almost a third of all vehicles sold in Australia of this ilk? Australia seems amidst a love affair that is only going one way, up. In this vein, a substantial numbers of cars we’ve driven in the last few years have been SUV-like but [...]

If Nissan X-trail is good enough for the dishy Bear Grylls then it’s good enough for me

Nissan 2WD SUV. SUV are breeding like rabbits and new models roll out of the factories in ever increasing numbers. Unlike the Johnny-cum-latelies, Nissan was among the first to have a proper hairy chested off-roader on offer. Do you remember the Nissan Patrol? Although the X-trail is much smaller, it has proved itself popular and capable. The whole point [...]
