Normally, driving a 7-seater would mean a certain amount of boredom. The All-New Toyota Kluger proved to be quite the revelation.

1: Space – the cabin is so roomy, especially with only 5 up

2: 7-seats – the 3rd row is occasional use, or for shorter humans

3: Apple Carplay/Android auto

4: hybrid – an option long needed for the medium to large SUV

5: Cabin quality – there has been a huge leap in the look and feel inside

6: Simple range – choose AWD or FWD, Petrol V6 or 4cyl hybrid in 3 trim levels

7: Extremely quiet – the cabin noise is also vastly improved

ABOVE: All New Toyota Kluger 2021

We thought the All-New Kluger was a great all-rounder. The handling tends to be on the soft side, so don’t go throwing it around too much. That doesn’t mean the handling is terrible, just that it is no sports car. It does what it says, a comfortable SUV with lots of space.

Hybrids come with a CVT, so not our favourite automatic, and certainly not silky like the superb 8-speed found in the V6 Kluger.

The exterior design looks modern but not as “cutting edge” as some of the other group designs.

The infotainment system works well, and is easy to use, and the manual air conditioning has a zone for the 2nd row seats, and there are cupholder galore.

There has been a huge leap in quality of material, ride, handling, and noise.
