The Toyota Hilux has again topped the list for sales in Australian with 4931 sold in June 2013. These sales reflect the strength of the light commercial market.

VFACTS data released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows the Toyota Corolla was second for sales in June (4196) followed by the Mazda 3 (3672), Hyundai i30 (3664) and Mitsubishi Triton (3456).

Sales of passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles last month totalled 118,758, up 5.5 per cent or 6192 vehicles on June 2012. This makes the year to date sales (YTD, January to June 2013) 573,711, a 4.7 per cent increase on sales from the same period last year. Light commercial sales were 23,526 last month, 15.3 per cent higher than for June 2012. YTD sales of light commercials are 13.5 per cent up on 2012 YTD sales.

Passenger car sales remained fairly static with a slight YTD decline of 1.5 per cent, while SUVs continue to increase their share of the overall market.

Sales in all states showed growth compared to June 2012. This growth ranged from 0.7 per cent in Western Australia to 32.8 per cent in Tasmania. Australia’s territories; however, experienced a decline in sales.

Government purchases continued to decrease with sales down 27.2 per cent (3461) compared to June 2012.

Toyota retains the top sales position in the June monthly market with 22,160 vehicle sales, ahead of Holden with 10,483, Hyundai with 9914, Ford with 9687 and Mazda with 9567.
